Would you like to see Clark Rockefeller questioned in more depth?

71% - Yes. As long as there appears to be a connection with at least one missing individual, authorities should try to get some answers from this mysterious man.

29% - No. Rockefeller is under no obligation to talk to anyone other than his lawyer.

0% - Not sure. Perhaps his memory will improve over time.

Hey! Long time reader but this is my first post. I moderate the UM board on sitcomsonline so its been a busy week for us over there. I personally have been contacted by the Boston Globe and the Fox News Channel (Geraldo at Large show) concerning copies of the UM segment. First off I know there was a lot of research on who Rockefeller/Chichester really was but UM did get his actual name right back in the 90's when this segment aired as Robert Stack said it was "Christian Gerhardstreiter". The biggest question of course is what happened to Linda? That was some speculation that maybe she ran off with Chichester but part of me can't help wonder if they look further near where John's remains were found (I know its not 100% confirmed but seems very likely they are his) they may find Linda's remains as well. One of those cases that you wonder if ever will be resolved but it looks like this one has a fair chance anyway.

We were pretty tickled that our board on SO got a mention in one of the articles this week as well. Not sure if its been posted on here but in case it hasn't here it is:

A marriage of convenience!

From AOL News:

Records reviewed by The Associated Press show that after Gerhartsreiter left Connecticut, he went to Wisconsin, where he married 22-year-old Amy Jersild on Feb. 20, 1981, in a civil ceremony at the Dane County courthouse in Madison. He was 19 at the time - and the marriage enabled him to get a green card.
He left the next day, according to divorce records Jersild filed 11 years later. On them, she listed his address as ``unknown.''

IIRC a foreigner marrying a U.S. citizen has to remain married for x amount of time before he/she can obtain their green card. I believe it's somewhere between 5-10 years?

The fact that he left the very next day after the marriage, and that she didn't file for a divorce for 11 years makes me believe this was a marriage of convenience so he could get his green card, either that or she couldn't afford to pay for a divorce until then, or had no reason to file until she met someone else she wanted to marry.

On paper his green card status would be correct, but otherwise, I think it should be invalidated.

Hey, welcome to WS. Congrats on the media mention.

I think you are right about the search for Linda. Chances are that she could be found there. I read somewhere they are planning a search around that area, but after all these years I don't have much hope of them locating her.

I think when he ran he ran overseas, then after watching the news and not seeing any mention that they were found that he decided to send the cards to help further the thought that they were overseas.

There is the possibility that Linda is the one who killed John. I think she would have needed help burying him though. Perhaps she had alias man to help her, and then took off. Because he was involved, perhaps fearing that he would be blamed for the murder, he wouldn't have reported her. Do you know if there was any money missing from John's estate and how much?

PHOTO OF A YOUNGER CHRISTIAN GERHARTSTREITER

Irmgard Gerhartsreiter, 80, said yesterday she felt mixed emotions at her son resurfacing. She added: ‘For me, it was as if he was already dead. 'Now I have been told he is alive, and what he is suspected of doing...perhaps it would be better if he was dead.’

Younger brother Alexander, 37, said he thought Christian had wanderlust when he left the village. The family had heard nothing from him since 1986, he said. A friend, however, said he thought the idea of Germany’s national service had driven Christian away.

I think Linda is deceased. From what her friends and both families are saying the two were in love, and they suited each other and shared similar interests. I suspect that this creep manipulated both of them, and in particular, Linda. It's quite possible both of them objected to this, or at least John did and he ended up dead. That or there was some money involved with him ripping the Sohus's off.

Chichester/Rockefeller/Gerhardstreiter was the last person to see either of them alive. He was supposed to drive them to the airport. No other suspects have been talked about and LE is extremely interested in him because he fled before they could talk to him.

"It's unbelievable," said 83-year-old Marianne Sander, a neighbor of Gerhartsreiter's mother, during an interview at her house. "It's terrible and surprising because [his parents] are such good people." Sander described Irmgard Gerhartsreiter, Christian's mother, as a talented seamstress who mended dresses and sewed clothes for virtually everyone in town.

"She's very hardworking," Sander said, patting the dirndl, a traditional German dress that Gerhartsreiter once took in for her because it was too big. "She's been working so hard her whole life."

Clark Rockefeller: The great pretender
When Clark Rockefeller made news after he abducted his daughter, he was believed to be a member of one of America's "royal' families. But, as Philip Sherwell reveals, the man of many aliases turns out to be no more than a German exchange student who never returned home - and went on to lead a life of deception.

Their frail 80-year-old mother, Irmgard, still lives in the family home – an Alpine house with blue shutters, geraniums in the window boxes and an apple orchard. Her husband, Simon, died six years ago. "I'm in shock. For me, he should really be dead," she said, when journalists broke the news to her, before US and German criminal authorities made it to her door.

I thought he was cute," said Lisa Gallegos, 44, who met him in 1983 at a USC screening of the movie "Yentl."

She said they went on one date and he boasted of having a master's degree in film.

The last time she saw him was that night she and Farrar played Trivial Pursuit at the guest house where Chichester was staying, she said.

Both Farrar, a former Los Angeles Times editor, and Gallegos said that that night they noticed much of the backyard of the Sohus' home was dug up. At the time, neither thought much of it.

"He said there were plumbing problems," Farrar said.

But after the bones were discovered in 1994, she was contacted and interviewed by L.A. County Sheriff's Department detectives

‘Rockefeller’ must have had charm

The story involving the man known as “Clark Rockefeller” gets “curiouser and curiouser” by the day.

Some have pointed out that he truly loved his daughter.

Really?

I don’t know if his behavior fits in with the definition of love.

At least, not my definition of it.

MassDebate: Clark Rockefeller: Evil Mastermind or Total Douche?

Bostonist doesn't like giving a lot of individual attention to alleged criminals, but the Clark Rockefeller story is just too weird to ignore.

As more information came in, however, Rockefeller seemed worth some attention. The press connected him to murders, films, and--our favorite--gold bouillon.

So how did a kid from Germany manage to make himself into a wanted man with a multitude of aliases?

BERGEN, Germany - A portrait of Christian Gerhartsreiter as a strange, fantasy-obsessed young man emerged yesterday, while his quaint Alpine hometown reeled in the wake of revelations about their long-lost native son.

‘He was always crazy’

“He just packed his stuff and then he left in the night,” he said. Like many townspeople, the man spoke to the Herald in Bavarian through a translator. “He didn’t even really think about it beforehand. He just left. His dad said, ‘He’s never coming back.’ But Simon was optimistic about it. It was quite tight here in the little village and he wanted to see the world.”
