An incredibly vague listing. NamUs refers to him as 'John Doe 29'.
No listing in the L.A. County Coroner website.

Height: 5'6.
Weight: Unknown.
Found: January 25, 1980.
Date of Death: ?/?/1980.
Hair: Black.
Eyes: Unknown.

That's all we have.

BTW; I just remembered studied him before and found a possible mention of him in a news page.
Santa Maria Times from Santa Maria, California on January 26, 1980 · 3
By the looks of it, his car crashed into a ravine. I dont have a subscription to Newspapers.com so maybe someone could clip for me?
I'm just not sure if this is exactly right as Los Padres National Forest isn't L.A. County.

Thanks for this. Do you think this article refers to him? I'm not sure if the location would be considered L.A. County. Plus I don't know if there's any further articles about the crash victim being identified.

It didn't seem to be that it did refer to the John Doe in the thread. It seemed to me they had a good idea on identification. I will see if I can find anything else in an effort to close this loop which may not be related at all to the John Doe in question.

I'm not finding identification article. Santa Barbara is in Santa Barbara County and has coroner held positions since 1947 according to google. I think the accident victim was probably identified and either an article was published that I am not finding, or perhaps an article was not published. I don't know, but it doesn't seem to me this is related to the John Doe in the thread.

Did you find anything that might refer to him?

Hi! I made an account just now to be able to reply here. I contacted the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office to inquiry about this case, and whether or not he was identified. I got a reply from Wendy Withers stating "
Good morning,

After a review of this case file, there is no potential name associated with this case, NamUs is updated with the most current information. Thank you for the information, we appreciate your time and support."

So, I am assuming that what name/identification they found/thought at the time did not pan out? So, he is still unidentified and no potential name is in his case file it seems.

I want to update that I believe these are two different people. This is due to the location (Los Angeles County for #UP4390, and Santa Barbara County for the man in the article) as well as the article mentioning the man was from the Santa Barbara area, meaning they likely knew his identity.
This is not confirmed, but I do not believe they are the same person, and the man in the article was likely identified but his identity was never published.

I found an article that identifies the man in the original Santa Maria Times article, confirming these two are not the same person.
