I wish NamUs would not post post-mortem photos, especially of minors, to the public. They keep plenty of other things, less sensitive, hidden to the public!

Anyway I see resemblance and agree with someone sending in the potential match.

Poor kid(s).

With the description “large holes pierced in ear lobes” it sounds like he had stretched ears, or “gauges.”
Depending on the size, that could be a big piece in identifying him. The larger they are, the less common they are and the more attention they attract. Based on those and his haircut, I’d say this young man was probably hanging around or even involved in the alternative music scene around that time, speaking from my own experiences. Not sure this is of any help, but it’s something I noted when I looked at his PM. He looks like a lot of young guys in that crowd did at the time. Someone has to be missing a buddy somewhere.

Garcia's eye color was black and this John Doe had brown eyes. I'm not too sure about this one. I wish there was a photo of Garcia available.

I don't believe people can have genuinely "black" eyes...I'm not sure why some MP databases use that terminology but I just take it to mean dark brown.

Agreed. I think black and brown eyes are "close enough" of a match. It's not like blue vs brown eyes where the difference is rather significant.

Here it is: Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner

ETA: I too have trouble searching by case number, even though the number is correct. I found that it works better if I search by Date Found.
Couple pieces of new info from his profile - was found w/ a cloth dream catcher bracelet, and the alley was at 5510 S. Compton Ave. Seems to be a normal residential neighborhood, but it is adjacent to the I-55 highway.

How sad that a teenager has gone unidentified for a decade. Does anyone know if Manuel (mentioned above) has been excluded or even submitted? Thanks for caring about him, everyone.

There is a photo of IFG at Charley Project (see below) and NCMEC. I don't personally think he resembles this "John Doe..."

Added September 20, 2024. I created this rendering.

I noticed that your composite doesn't have the longer eyelashes seen in the morgue photo for these remains, but I also get that the way you do eyes (taking opened eyes from a different image, placing them over the eyes of the UID in their morgue photo, and blurring over the edges) isn't very conducive to representing them.

I'm also curious how you decided to render the size of his ear gauge holes (I'm assuming based on what I know of your previous work that you weren't given access to a different morgue photo, and only a very small part of the right ear is visible in the public post-mortem image)?
