The gauge holes were indeed estimated from the visible portion of the right lobe. Assuming his ears are leveled at around the mid-portion of his face (his photo appears to have been taken at a slightly upward angle, I used what was visible of his bottom left ear to further estimate the position), the rendered lobes should reach at least to the length of the said visible right lobe. Though I rendered them slightly longer after taking gravity into account (his photo is taken at a lopsided angle). The size of the hole itself is an educated guess.I noticed that your composite doesn't have the longer eyelashes seen in the morgue photo for these remains, but I also get that the way you do eyes (taking opened eyes from a different image, placing them over the eyes of the UID in their morgue photo, and blurring over the edges) isn't very conducive to representing them.
I'm also curious how you decided to render the size of his ear gauge holes (I'm assuming based on what I know of your previous work that you weren't given access to a different morgue photo, and only a very small part of the right ear is visible in the public post-mortem image)?
I recall darkening the eyelashes while working on the rendering but i might've accidentally undid them at some point. I don't think it's a big enough detail to prevent tips from being forwarded to the LA coroner.
