I believe it is really easy to find such content. Many boys here typically access sites at 10 years old... I'm pretty sure parents did not volunteer this sort of info out to their boys. The boys found them, passed them around, etc.

I worked at an advocacy center and I totally agree with you. The content children (especially boys) are finding easily is horrifying.

He was a troubled boy for sure to have done something like that. That was not evidenced by his putting on yoyo shows of course. Was he guarded and quiet? Yes he was. And yoyo shows don't require a lot of talking.

No, I am just speculating that he watched a lot of . He was 15, lonely, home alone quite a bit. Fits the profile, imo.

It's one of those things that are interesting now, right? Like, I taught classes when I was 14-15 to younger kids along with my best friend and it wouldn't have been interesting to anyone. But given the context of his crime, it's certainly interesting and makes you wonder if he was just gaining trust and access.

Only in that it gave them proximity to each other, but California isn't a cause is it? People are equating being quiet with committing these crimes. It's a completely asinine equation that is based on no facts or science.

For any of our Legal Eagles out there, in your opinion, what is the possibility of this boy being charged as an adult? Also, would that determination be made prior to the initial charge or would he be upgraded to adult status afterwards?

I feel the same way. Are we just supposed to raise our kids to be suspicious of everyone, everywhere, all the time and never go to anyone else's house? No birthdays and slumber parties? I understand that's extreme but if there's no way for us to know what are we supposed to do? And what about parents of kids like these? I wouldn't know what to look for other than the obvious arson and animal abuse.... Very sad indeed.

Every parent has to do the best they know how and hope for the best outcome. I think kids do need to learn independence at some point. I think it sounds like Maddy's mom did everything right. But unfortunately, you can never control the actions of others. There was no way to predict something like this would happen.

Obviously we can't live our lives in fear of everyone and everything. If we did, none of us would ever trust another human being. We wouldn't have friends or spouses or anything. I think you just have to teach kids how to use good judgement. But again, sometimes even doing everything "right"...things happen. It's sad.

OMG.. they are interviewing a lady on the news tonight who is making it sound like Maddy should have known better or her Mom should've taught her better. Disgusting. And yes I'm emailing the news station.

Again, even if it is reported by a reliable "source" that she was sexually violated, that has nothing to do with sexual satisfaction hormones or - it has to do with power and control. Violence, period, nothing more.

But we still have no "source" for that yet.

I agree. We have no confirmation from LE about a sexual crime (as far as I've read, anyway.) Nor have we heard anything about . I think that's all speculation so the debate, while interesting and relevant to life and raising children...may not be exactly relevant to this case. Or we may find out it is. Too early to tell.

Way earlier in the thread, it was mentioned that LE was seen dumping out the suspect's mom's purse and looking for something. I am not sure if this was right when he was being taken into custody or right before or what. But are they legally allowed to do that without any type of warrant? Or would they have needed something? (Forgive my ignorance. I don't know much about the law and I'm new to this whole websleuth world.)

Do we know if the murder was to hide a sexual assault? That seems most likely to me, Imo, if he was not known for being into gore, death, mutilation etc. Those hobbies are hard to hide. People usually know these kids as "weird" "a freak" etc jmo.

I believe his intentions from the beginning was to rape and kill her, then throw her away like garbage!! And then all he cared about was HIMSELF, and not getting caught.

They may have asked her and she may have agreed. I guess depending on what was needed and for what purpose would determine the legalities. Based on a great deal of speculation on a number of points tonight, and some speculative reporting, she may have dumped the purse herself looking for something in her emotional state as opposed to LE dumping her purse. Just a thought.

It's not a guess. In the presser, he basically said they didn't look in the dumpster until it became a recovery operation. I'm just assuming their reasoning is live 8 year olds won't be in dumpsters. When they started to assume her death, they checked the dumpster. Whether their assumption or timing was perfect - that's opinion. I'm just saying their tactics changed when they switched to recovery mode.
