Please keep in mind that the initial searchers were looking for Maddy as a little lost girl. They were not conducting a crime-scene investigation with scrutiny. If you helped your neighbor look for a lost child, you probably would be looking for an alive girl, not digging under recylcing or trash. Especially since the child had only recently gone missing, you'd be working quickly, I would expect.

Rsbm

True. In addition to this, and NOT blaming the searchers here, yes they are looking for a live child, but also anything possibly linked to her, such as her scooter, clothing, etc.

I think he was lying. He just didn't want to admit that he wanted to rape and strangle her. So he says something like ' I just wanted to see how others would react.." I call BS on that explanation.

I agree, that the main motive was to rape and strangle...

But I imagine there is a little truth to his statement regarding his wanting to view the reactions of others to her death...

In a morbid way...it was part of his fantasy...

and... This may give us insight into what young killers have going through their minds...
It is so unfathomable.... :(

Will not comment on specifics, that will come put in trial

Arraignment tomorrow

Nature of crime, how crime was committed, age of the offender and criminal record factor into charging as adult

I agree. Rape was a motivation, but the reaction of disgust it part of it. It's like the disgust we all feel for this crime confirms to the perp how disgusting he is. And, it's an attack on others to make them suffer from the crime. It's manipulation of not just the victim but of anyone who hears about the crime.

Rape is rarely about sexual gratification only. There is rage in the act. I think the rage is against the world and against self.

This is no excuse, of course. Not at all.

JMO.

I don't recall ever hearing the charge' lying in wait'. This was not a happenstance meeting. Sick f***

I apologize for my remarks last thread about 'raging hormones' How insensitive and ridiculous that was to say. I don't even know why I thought that-the very notion goes against my grain of how I was raised and taught. I grew up with 5 brothers and NEVER would our mother or father EVER have allowed any excuse to 'blame' nature versus morality for any untoward behavior. I wish I could take it back.

Praying for Maddy's family.

:grouphug: Starry Night!
