GUILTY CA - Madyson Middleton, 8, Santa Cruz, 26 July 2015 - #3 *Arrest*

I do think Gonzalez was the author of the threat to the high school. He wanted badly to be noticed and he was a student there, but having said that... Santa Cruz is NOT small town america. There are lots of crazies- I've seen myself, and homeless, and druggies. And many live in the mountains nearby, not 10 min. away.
Just over a year ago, I accompanied our niece to a political rally in downtown Santa Cruz that was anti-GMO. Some crazy guy was ranting and screaming about nuclear issues (totally unrelated) and yelling that the children should cover their ears, but not because of profanity. He was just nuts.

I also think he was the author. How many teens uses those two words together? I doubt very many. I don't know of any teen who has ever used that phraseology. Common phrases used by someone have been used in other investigations before to tie them to the crime and even more than one crime. Each person has their own unique way of stringing words together.

This was just another way to seek attention.

I do believe he had this all planned out before he lured her to his apartment. Its just too much of a coincidence for me to believe this wasn't premeditated. 1) she was inside his apartment alone with him with no one around. 2) The duct tape or whatever he needed to bind her had to already be in the room. 3) The weapon he used to stab her already had to be in the room. 4) The object he used to brutalize her little body had to already in the room.

He was fully prepared for this ahead of time. IMO

I have a feeling LE found a treasure trove of evidence inside of his bedroom. He could have even written about his fantasies or made 🤬🤬🤬🤬 drawings. To me he is a sexual deviant including having sadistic traits but this is the first time he acted out his fantasies. The more he made her suffer in great pain the more enjoyment he got out of it.

This teen should never see the light of day. Doctors cant 'fix' someone like he is.

100% agree with you oceanblueeyes. I also think the videos are evidence of his
premeditation, especially the ice cream bars being taken out of the freezer... This
is what he lured dear Mattie with.

My bet is it was more of a game to him.

ETA this is response to the earlier post where someone asked why would he contact the paper about the threat. Not sure what is going on with my account lately. All kind of weirdness is happening.

spot on. agree with you. all planned in advance down to the ice cream sandwich and box to carry her out.....

I don't think he is a criminal master mind. Think of Gypsy Blanchard and her BF. No need to be a mastermind to fantasize, plan, and kill.

Does anyone else cringe a little when reading terms like "evil piece of ****" used on a fifteen year old boy? I acknowledge that what he did was tremendously awful and that the people involved will never be the same - but does some part of anyone feel that awkward twinge when realizing that young man isn't even old enough to consent to have sex, legally? :( Overall very conflicted - and I'm friends with a good friend of Mady's mother, so that makes it even harder. At least in their memorial photographs she's smiling. So strong. I wouldn't be able to do it.

I think I called him a 🤬🤬🤬 upstream a bit. And I am sorry, perhaps it is cringeworthy to say it, but it is how I am feeling about him. It makes me cringe a bit to see the statement about him 'not being old enough to consent' to sex. This was never about 'sex', imo. This was torture, rape, power, rage, anger, HATRED. Not sex.

He spent years 'befriending' his victim. Grooming her, making her comfortable with him. Pretending to care about her. Invites her in for ice cream. Then comes at her from behind in a vicious attack. Duct tapes her, and I cannot even go on. So NO< I do not feel bad about calling him a 🤬🤬🤬. Not at all.

I'm sorry too.......but I have no qualms about describing this particular 15 yr old boy as an evil 🤬🤬🤬, the crime he commited warrants it IMO.

Welcome to Websleuths. I'm so sorry that your first post was under these circumstances and that you are so close to the case. I can't imagine how hard that is. :(

Personally, I'm not in favor of using expressions like that about anyone of any age, so yes, I cringe. But some express themselves differently, and after knowing them here on other cases, I've learned that they care deeply about victims and pour their hearts into these cases. Their feelings come out in a rougher way than mine do, but I understand where they are coming from. Many of us have been on this thread from the beginning and were even here in real time when Maddy was found. We have been horrified about what happened to Maddy at the hands of AJG. And some of us have been through this horror on other threads in the past. So emotions run high. That's part of what makes Websleuthers passionate about helping. It can be a rough ride and we don't always agree, but we're all on the same side. I hope you'll stick around.

Nope. He's a piece of ****, and worse. He deserves to be called that for what he did to Mady. Just my opinion ofc!

It's kind of crass to make that statement about sex when he raped his victim, imo.

I find it cringe worthy that he lured, raped, and violently murdered a child and stuffed her into a garbage bin...and can't get life without parole. He can't consent to sex, but he can rape an innocent child and have a chance to get out and do it again. What about her consent? Are we forgetting that? She was on the earth for 8 years...what about her? Can we focus on her instead of label semantics for the monster who snuffed out her life?

Him...no...he doesn't get any of my grace extended to him. Not conflicted here. Not sorry about it.

And I am sorry for being so blunt, but talking about his ability to consent to "sex" when he violently raped a young little girl...is disgusting. JMO.

:welcome: at_the_keor

Cases like this are always tough. It is very difficult to wrap our heads around someone so young committing such atrocities against anyone, let alone a child. You will find the opinions here are varied, strong and genuinely heartfelt.

When a child is victimized by another older child, it can cause some pretty strong reactions. It is like a punch in the gut. It is something we all struggle with every single time a case of this sort arises. Sadly it seems there have been so many more with each passing year.

I am moved by how very gracefully and graciously Madysn's mother has dealt with this horrible loss. She is someone I admire greatly for her ability to see beyond her own suffering and recognize that others are as well. I do not know if I could demonstrate that strength of character in similar circumstances.

I couldn't disagree more. Anyone who attacks, rapes, and throws a living being away like garbage is absolutely an evil 🤬🤬🤬. 15 years old - and even a bit younger, I'm sure - is plenty old enough to know that his crimes are among the most despicable you could ever commit.

And let us not forget how he hung around waiting for her to be found.

Waiting waiting waiting while everyone is crying and looking.

The child who was his " friend".

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KTVU) – There are new details emerging about the teenager accused of killing 8-year-old Madyson Middleton in Santa Cruz.
A report by the Santa Cruz Sentinel says the suspect, 15-year-old Adrian Jerry Gonzalez, could possibly be linked to a shooting threat against Santa Cruz High School in November.
According to the report Adrian wrote that he had "crippling anxiety" on Instagram before his arrest.
The paper says the person who claimed to have made the threat against Santa Cruz High School in November also said he had "Crippling Anxiety."
Santa Cruz police told the Sentinel that they are aware of the similarities, but right now they're focused on finishing their investigation into Madyson's death. <snip> He did not enter a plea at a court appearance July 30, and his arraignment was continued to Sept. 21. more at link: http://www.ktvu.com/story/29758428/...ath-may-be-linked-to-previous-shooting-threat

I totally agree and thought your wording was eloquent!:clap::clap::goodpost:The focus should be on the victim, who was raped and had no consent, not whether the perp was able to have sex. So what if he was "only 15". She was only 8- nearly half his age! And yes he is a monster, no apologies here, even if posters knew him.

If this 15 yr old had been a victim of a crime and that crime was being discussed on WS, chances are he'd be called a baby. However, as perpetrator of this crime (yes, it is among the worst there can be), he is instead a fully mature monster. Such is the range when described through the well of emotions.

It's ironic that Maddy's mother has compassion for the evil monster killer of her own daughter, and far beyond those whose only connection to this case is through news reports. The mother is demonstrating a level of forgiveness or at least empathy & compassion I've rarely seen. I don't know her religious beliefs, but what she's displaying appears to be the living embodiment of Christian-type values of forgiveness, the very ones espoused in Sunday sermons all across the land.

I'm not religious, and I don't think I could be as gracious or compassionate, but I think Maddy's mom is an amazing example and a miracle of human spirit, and if people pay attention and take their cues from her, they may find some peace eventually.

I think she (Mattie's mother) had compassion for the mother of AJG.

I would cringe if someone called a normal, average 15 year old that. But in this case? Nope. I don't cringe one bit.
