Agree - she's a good possibility. It sounds as though CarlK has submitted this as a possible match. There is no DNA sufficient for testing for Jane Doe but both JD and Andrea have dentals and fingerprints on file to compare.

Right above her shoulder appears to be a man with a mustache and sunglasses, he has something white on his head. I see a man with dark hair wearing a red and black jacket, the jacket appears to be billowing in the wind. You can make out his ear and neck. He is also wearing red pants. Could the other be an art easel?

I agree, there is a man to the right of the easel leg in the photo sitting off in a distance., with a mustache and sunglasses or glasses. The red pants with the stripe (sweat suit) behind her and a matching red jacket. Then it looks to me as if he has a black cape, scarf or throw on him. Could it be a photo from a theme park or something? or a Harley rally or outdoor festival?

For those that are missing it, I see it only when I zoom in.

I agree, there is a man to the right of the easel leg in the photo sitting off in a distance., with a mustache and sunglasses with a white thing on his head to the upper left of him is a clown face with big ears and a red nose. The red pants with the stripe (sweat suit) behind her and a matching red jacket. Then it looks to me as if he has a black cape, scarf or throw on him, actually a black partial costume over the red jump suit. Could it be a photo from a theme park or something? or a Harley rally or outdoor festival? That black mark on her shoulder is in the photo when I zoom it.

It should be mentioned that Malibu Canyon is a very popular route for bikers out for a weekend-ride.
There is a place called the Rock Store on Mulholland Highway, not far from where this Jane Doe was found.
The Rock Store is a popular location where bikers park and show off their bikes and socialize.

The original police bulletin poster on NAMUS states "The body was found approximately 150 feet below a turnout on Topanga Canyon Boulevard approximately three miles north of Pacific Coast Highway."

There's a turnout, at what GoogleMaps labels as 1990 S Topanga Canyon Blvd, which is 2.8 miles north of PCH. Of course, I don't know for sure if this is *THE* turnout, but assuming it's close, the Rock Store (at 30358 Mullholland Hwy) is 20.5 miles away.

I used to live about a mile from this turnout, so I know the area. Topanga Canyon is still a popular biker route, and I'm sure they do come through on the way to the Rock Store. I just don't know if I would consider it "close." (Sorry, I'm not trying to be pedantic. Sometimes my Aspie tendency makes me obsessed with details.)


More Topanga Canyon info, for those who aren't familiar:

Right now, if one goes northbound on TCB from PCH, it's pretty much just wilderness (with a heavily-traveled, curvy, two-lane road) until you reach the unincorporated town of Topanga in about 3.7 miles.

It should be noted that there used to be a decades-old community called "Lower Topanga" (of questionable legality land-wise, from what I understand, MOO) that was located close to where TCB meets PCH. Its residents began to be evicted in 2002, so that the state parks department could restore the area to a more natural state.

This Lower Topanga area was mostly full of surfers/artists in the 1960s, but I don't know what kind of place it was in 1980. (Perhaps it had an outlaw vibe, as Topanga had in the 1960s? Pure speculation on my part.)

So the dumpsite was close (0.7 or so miles) to the town of Topanga on one side, and sort of close (3 miles) to Lower Topanga on the other.

It does make me wonder if it was someone just passing through who dumped the UID, or if it was someone local to the immediate area. The police bulletin on NAMUS is dated May 7, 1980 (nearly two months after the UID was located on March 9,) which makes me concerned that LE might not have done a lot of canvasing of the area at first. I don't know if the case was handled by LAPD or by the county sheriff. (Topanga is only served by the sheriff these days.)

It says "insufficient DNA for profiling," which often means they do have a sample, but not the 13-loci STR profile you need for the automatic testing. It's possible that they could compare by hand and get a ruleout. They couldn't get a definitive match, but it would be a clue to further investigation.

They look very similar! The height is off, but there’s little info about Lisa available so I can imagine there’s some room for error. I’d submit this one! Great find, Lisa’s also fairly new to be published on NamUs so may not have come up on anyone’s radar yet.
