Wow, so they may have a serial killer there. It sounds like whoever got in this guy’s way was expendable. Gotta wonder if they are done finding bodies. The count is at 4 now. IMO

Son-in-law of missing California couple arrested after bodies believed to be theirs are found in Mexico
[...]

The couple’s son-in-law, identified only as Santiago N, 37, is in custody and is expected to be charged with their disappearance at a state court hearing late Saturday, Jan. 18, said Deputy Baja California Attorney General Hiram Sanchez Zamora.

Sanchez Zamora said charges likely will include forcibly detaining someone, but he declined to get more specific on possible accusations.

[...]

When Mexican authorities questioned Santiago about what happened to his in-laws, he told them he had picked the couple up after they walked across the border, Sanchez Zamora said.

He claimed he took them to their houses and took them to the bank to exchange currency, then drove them back to the border.

[...]

The Guilléns drove themselves to their houses, Sanchez Zamora said, not Santiago. Then, “they never left.”

Sanchez Zamora said it appears Santiago also tried to use the couple’s bank cards.

[...]

Do investigators believe Santiago may have killed the couple because he didn’t have the 120,000 pesos to give them?

“That’s one of the hypotheses,” Sanchez Zamora said. It is still under investigation if others were involved in the crime, authorities said.

How awful! I'm so sorry it ended this way for this couple. And wonder who the others will turn out to be? Terrible.

Police in Garden Grove launched a missing persons investigation after López said she could no longer track her parents’ movements through the Find My Phone app. She said the last signal she received before their phone went dead was at the property they owned where her husband was living in southern Tijuana, about 4 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. Their bodies were found buried under the dirt floor of one of the property’s three homes late Friday

Two More Bodies Found On Property Owned By Missing Garden Grove Couple
[...]

The authorities said that with the help of a canine and Fire Department, excavation work was carried out in the house, which had a dirt floor in one of the rooms. Between the sand and the mud, a male corpse was found. A female corpse was also located in the room. Both were in various states of decomposition.

The excavation work continued and two other bodies were found, a man between 70 and 75 years old, and a woman between 60 and 65 years old. They are suspected to be the missing Garden Grove couple, according to authorities.

[...]
It looks like they found the two other bodies before they found Lopez and Guillen. I have to wonder what tipped the police off to look for them, the fact they were missing?

According to this, the daughter lived here in CA and the husband lived in Tijuana. I read upthread that he had been deported for committing crimes in the U.S.

The couple's son in law, identified as Santiago, has been detained in connection with the crime. Authorities said he was involved in a kidnapping scheme with the couple.

Authorities believe the motive was rent money the couple was collecting.

Officials said Santiago was going to demand a ransom for the couple. They said the son-in-law had a criminal record in the United States and had been deported in 2012.

The way the other article was written, it made it sound like the other bodies were found before the Guillen couple were and that those bodies were found while looking for the Guillen couple. Of course it could just be chemo brain. Nothing to see here folks.

Police were investigating the deaths of Jesus Lopez Guillen, 70, and his wife, Maria Teresa Guillen, 65, whose bodies were found last week in the Obrera neighborhood home when they discovered the bodies of another man and woman, according to the attorney general’s office of Baja California.

In the latest grisly discovery, the two additional bodies were found beneath a dirt floor in a room in the home, authorities said. There was sand and mud on the male corpse and a white powder, believed to be lime, on the female corpse. Fire department personnel, assisted by a police canine, were instrumental in finding the bodies, which are believed to have been buried longer than the bodies of the Guillens, authorities said.

The attorney general’s office for the state of Baja California, just south of San Diego, California, said late Saturday the second set of bodies – one male and the other female – are in a state of advanced decomposition. All four bodies were covered in lime.

Authorities suspect the man killed his in-laws in a dispute over money. They say he confessed to burying them on one of their properties, where he lived.

“The suspect, known as Santiago N., 36, had a criminal record in the US, and was deported in 2012.”

“He had been living at the property in Tijuana and supposedly had collected rent on their behalf.”

“The motive for the killings appeared to be a dispute over rent payments, The Associated Press reported.”

“Investigators said Santiago confessed that he buried them on one of their properties.”

A day later after the first two bodies were found, cadaver dogs returned to the same house in Tijuana and unearthed two more sets of human remains belonging to a man and a woman.

The additional bodies were found hidden under a dirt floor in one of the rooms in an advanced state of decomposition.

The male victim was covered in mud and sand, while the female victim had white powder on her that is thought to be lime.

As of Monday morning, they have not been identified.
