I wouldn't recommend bringing any other MP cases into it by name. LE always knows more than we do and I feel credibility will be lost if assumptions are made. For all we know Laura Stacy got lost, her vehicle was out of gas, so they assumed she took off on foot did a basic search of the radius and found her; maybe it was more simple than poor Maricela's situation. I think it's important to point out this case is getting too little attention and too few LE resources for the circumstances, but I wouldn't bring other cases up. We really can't judge their decisions there. We don't want to make enemies here, we want allies.
Everything else you said sounds great. Really emphasize that LE said she is NOT voluntary missing and that others could be in danger.

Ps. If and when Maricela is found I hope she knows a published photographer with integrity will take some true and beautiful images of her free of charge. (Which is me)

So talked to a television contact. To her, not news. Now, if we can get LAPD to elevate her, it's news. She can be not voluntarily missing but until LAPD themselves say she is critical or endangered, not news. She said the search may be news. If they have a large turnout, she will probably send a crew out.
Gonna run it past my daily news reporter, too.

My thoughts are to send out a plea on FB for as many searchers as possible. Not only because they are looking for specific items this time in a larger radius but because we still need media. We need other stations to pick up the search as well. Or does that not sound right? I don't want it to sound like the family just wants to be on tv or something....and that was the channel that was out there last night...what are your thoughts on that? I really want news coverage when its been a few days but also thinking we should take it where we can get it. What do you guys think?

More importantly, HOW do we get her elevated to the critical/endangered status? I asked the detective but she dodged my questions. I'm pretty tenacious but she's expert at saying a whole lot of nothing. It means more if the media questions them but i don't have anyone that good in my back pocket. Do I encourage the public to start calling and asking? I don't want to make enemies myself and certainly don't want animosity between the police and the family....but how do I make this happen? Can i? Once that happens, we are good. My CBS girl told me that what killed this story in the beginning was the "been missing before" statement. Well, that was made by a girl who hasn't seen Mari in years and inserted herself into this whole thing. She was handling everything for the family in the first few days...until I realized the family had no idea she was :/ Weirdo. She made that statement, idk, some kind of attention thing. ALTHOUGH, it could be true. I myself really don't know. I can just go based on what the family has said and they are ADAMANT she has never done this before and would certainly not leave Sara.

Trying to get my game plan together....and really trying to get to my pms.
Soon, I promise. I'm so sorry

OK, that's weird. I just got a message from someone on the page with questions about contacting LA weekly. Are you in disguise there :)?
?, no. I've already made contact with them and posted the link to keep it hot.

That is exactly what happened. She was found walking down the freeway 15 miles away.

A few thoughts on LE.

1. Please don't flood them with complaints and phone calls. They do actually have other cases and other families that also need their help. Don't make it any harder for them or create an association with Marcela as the case that makes their day hell. Don't assume they don't care or are doing nothing. I know it is really frustrating, but some agencies just have a very closed policy with regards to communication and certainly have room for improvement. There are other ways to keep up the momentum and help. (and you;re doing them!)
2. Find out who the NamUS victim advocate is for that area and contact them.
3. Not all LE agencies have a process that includes NamUS. The family needs to take that step.
4. If the State LE has her listed, my guess is the SBI is involved. If they suspect sex trafficking, it explains their secrecy, it explains the comment about the media attention, and it explains why the local LE is not doing groundwork like camera footage or searches near the Goodwill - besides, you've been doing that for them. They may believe there is nothing more of value to find there because they already have a good idea of what happened and who to tail or where to surveil that is nowhere near there.
5. Get in touch with Polaris. https://polarisproject.org/get-assistance

someone mentioned on here a few pages ago that maybe the fliers should have a picture of her from the goodwill surveillance video, as someone might recognize her based on what she was wearing that night vs from photos of her face. should we get a new flier made up? idk if it's necessary but it might help? i was going to try to head to the print shop today and put flyers around my neighborhood since i live in the area and see a bunch of naked light poles, and tons of people always biking/running/walking their dogs. that should get some more people thinking about her.

So the friend's 'missing' statement is a separate incident from the x holding her at a motel?

I'm glad you mentioned this.
I didn't want to be the one to say it but I believe your correct. I showed this case to three people and two of them emailed back pretty much the same thing ( stuff along the lines of----she's been missing before so it is probably nothing more then a domestic situation where boyfriend has her and she makes up with him, refuses to prosecute type of deal)
For the record, I don't believe that she's voluntarily missing and do believe she was likely a crime victim.
I believe she would've taken her purse, car or cigarette pack if she just wanted to run off. It's clear that she isn't an extremely wealthy girl ( she was working for postmates and also the car she drove was older, she was shopping at a GW. Nothing is wrong with any of those this at all, it just tells me that she wasn't rich) so since she wasn't a wealthy girl ( like no money in Swiss bank accounts) that she probably didn't run off without her purse, car or personal items with no means to buy food or clothing.

Awesome.

Maricela Garcia: Missing two weeks, but is LAPD looking?

The sister of Maricela Garcia, the California woman who disappeared while shopping at a Los Angeles area Goodwill Store, is desperately pleading with Los Angeles police to investigate the case that detectives labeled “voluntary missing.” A smashed cell phone, a torn necklace and a tracking dog’s reaction convinced her family that the 26-year-old woman was kidnapped. Nancy Grace discusses the LAPD’s reluctance to work the case with Alan Duke, who walked Maricela’s last path with her family."

Permission to quote and share???

I agree with you about not flooding LAPD with calls or emails. Hopefully that hasn't happened. As far as getting registered on sites youve listed I believe that's been discussed on previous threads.
It could very well be a sex trafficking case, but unfortunately it didn't get turned into the MPU until waves were made. Yes there is the possibility a sex trafficking ring might dump her if she brings unwanted attention. She could also spend the rest of her life being drugged and pimped without ever being rescued by LE. In fact I know someone who recieved millions in federal money to bring down a Russian sex trafficking ring without any luck. I'm not anti LE, I'm related to a former CHP and local LEO. I have numerous friends who are current and former local, state, federal, and military LEO'S, but I also know how underfunded and overloaded LAPD has always been and not everyone gets the attention they deserve. Unfortunately, I believe this is the case with MG. Of course I hope that's not true and they're ready to break down the doors of a sex trafficking ring, especially since another women was dumped 1/2 naked, duck taped, and drugged the day after MG went missing just a couple blocks away. LAPD is stating that was also voluntary and now that women has vanished again. So many what if's, but if it wasn't for the family reaching out to people online this case would most likley have been shelved forever. I sure hope I'm wrong!

Just to piggyback off of what Veil mentioned regarding possible sex trafficking victim. This possibility is what I've been thinking. It would explain the reason why law enforcement have been working with other departments and not disclosing any real information about her case. It would also explain in the beginning why LE said she voluntary left. For example she willingly meet up with a client paying for a her hostess services but in reality is a trafficker.

The post on the FB page about Dateline reached 5000 people
The first NG podcast over 8000
The second NG podcast a little over 1000
The latest post about the search, around 300
What am I doing wrong
I think that we need to humanize Maricela and let people fall in love with her. We need to know all her silly quirky habits, her soft side, what made her laugh or cry. We need to get to know Maricela. That's the key, I assure you. This will have to come from family, and it will be easy for them. It will give them power back too, of their daughter/sister. We need pics and thousands of little stories of Mari being a regular person, not just a wannabe model. We need to "meet Mari".

you are EXACTLY right!! people latch on to one thing and one thing only in this story - "wannabe model" and "former drug user" and that HAS to change if people are going to pay attention to her case.

So I had stumbled across this earlier today...
www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-sex-trafficking-sepulveda-20170126-story,amp.html

Then seeing these older articles while just looking for the link again now...
http://www.dailynews.com/social-aff...ley-gets-its-own-human-trafficking-task-force

http://abc7.com/news/more-than-200-...san-fernando-valley-trafficking-unit/1490545/

Looks pretty obvious that there's a targeted Sex Trafficking Task Force operating in the San Fernando Valley the last year or so.... NOW - We need to remember, this is no nail in the coffin to the theory, but further supports the likelihood. A specialized task force like this would not report to the local LAPD, they would report to a higher level division.

P.s. this plausible possibility absolutely drops my stomach, but so do so many other reasons she is still missing after this long under these circumstances.
Just to say it, if this IS the case - They should have a specialized approach with the families - What family I'm their right mind wouldn't be feeling injusticed by such secrecy and lack of known action??

That is why I had the friends talk at the vigil last night. I have asked and asked and asked for this kind of information and not gotten it. I wanted Sara to tell stories and stuff and she just hasn't. I don't know how to stress the importance of doing this. It's not going to happen tonight unfortunately.
So, I talked to someone else who thinks other agencies is significant. She's going to look around.
I talked to the community liaison. He is not familiar with the case but a great guy. He's going to talk to Palmer and hopefully have some kind of answers for the family Monday or Tuesday.
Univision called me. They are really, really gung ho on this story.. They even called the PD trying to find out more information. They want to go to the house tonight and interview the family as they prepare for the search. The reporter's take was that a story will bring more people out tomorrow. If more people come, more media will be there. He is really compassionate and very interested. I wish I could understand what they were saying :(

So, I have to read back a page or two and still get to those pms. I'll see what I can do about getting more personal stuff up. Sara is usually pretty active about midnight and I'm sure I'll be up working. Maybe she can just tell me the stories and I will post them.

It is seeming more and more plausible that this is truly a case of HT. I really hope this detective was being honest and not just trying to blow me off. Hopefully the PI or the liaison can get some more information that will actually reassure this dad.
I'm going to post shortly encouraging people to search. Hopefully I can include some details about Mari.
Siren and code, please don't think I am ignoring you...and anyone else who has pm'd. I have seriously been either on the phone, posting here, or taxiing kids since about noon my time. I promise I am so grateful for your help and your messages.
Is there anything that I should know right now? The best way to always reach me is messaging the page but I am really trying to catch up

Good idea re: her clothing from that night.

Do you guys remember by any chance which big show featured Kara Nichols' case and the interview with her family? She allegedly used heroin and was on model mayhem, iirc. (Kara still has never been found).
