Found Deceased KY - Amanda Bailey, 26, Madison County, 30 Jan 2019

  • #101
The property owner said the water were Amanda would have had to cross the creek was waste deep.

“There’s a creek she would have had to have crossed to go to where we found her, and it’s like waist-deep and if she had gotten across that creek hypothermia would have set in,” said Elkins.
Coroner: Body Found In Richmond May Be Missing Clark County Woman

The water may have been lightly frozen over and Amanda thought she could walk across the ice but broke through and plunged into the water. She also may have tried crossing the creek not knowing how deep the water actually was.

Hypothermia causes someone to become confused. The confused thinking can lead someone to risk taking behavior. Amanda likely was suffering from Hypothermia before she encountered the creek and possibly in her reduced state of mind didn't take into consideration what would happen if her clothing became wet.

Thanks, Joe. I'm near a creek but not sure how deep it is. If I can find time, I will do a little investigating. I'm not sure I've seen it freeze before, but I don't recall whether I've walked around out there when it's cold either. The kids who live down that way will definitely know!

Does anyone know if Amanda's ex-boyfriend is the father of her child? Just curious if he is the father. So sad this case ended like this for Amanda and her poor little girl.

The family of 26-year-old Amanda Bailey knows very little about what happened last week after she missing in Madison County.

“It’s all just a total, total shock,” Hampton said. “She was supposed to take her little girl to get ear tubes (Tuesday) and when her dad hadn’t heard from her, he started trying to figure out where she was. He learned she hadn’t taken her daughter for the appointment and called her in as missing after that.”

Hampton said police have still not recovered Bailey’s cell phone and say it will be at least two weeks before they can release autopsy results.

Hampton said Bailey was a fun-loving and easy-going country girl who would have celebrated her 27th birthday Wednesday.

“She had a 4-year-old daughter that she absolutely adored,” Hampton said. “She was her world. She looks and acts just like Amanda. We always told Amanda that if anything ever happened to her, she would live on through Addalyn because she is just so much like her.”

Hampton said Addalyn returned the affection for her mother.

“She would always say, ‘I love my mommy. She’s so pretty,’” Hampton recalls.

Bailey was born in Winchester, but grew up in Richmond. Hampton said she recently returned to Clark County, where she lived in an apartment in her dad, David’s, home. She was employed at New Leaf Staffing.

Hampton said she enjoyed hunting and fishing and her friends remember her as being friendly and easy to get along with.

“She was a good girl,” Hampton said. “She didn’t ask for much. She was simple. Everyone who met her loved her. We’ve gotten so many messages from people taking about how sweet she was and how she was always fun to be around.”

Currently, no funeral arrangements have been made, Hampton said. The family is asking for help paying for Bailey’s funeral expenses.

That is interesting.

Did they track the phone from Lake Reba? Did it run out of power when she left the lake? These phones always seems to lose power or disappear...

I don't know, I would have to read back to be sure, but I don't think much has been said about her phone. Maybe it disappeared in that waist-high water. ?

Yes, I think this is the first I have heard of the phone. LE must have tried using cell locations to find her initially, then to figure out how she got to where she was found.

The waist high water was a comment from the landowner "E" IIRC, and I believe it was pure speculation.

What little I know-
1) Amanda disappears
2) Last person to see her was BF or exBF.
3) LE is told she just walked off.
4) Amanda's body is found outside, in an illogical area.
5) LE is quick to use the term- "no foul play is expected."
6) Now there is no cell phone.

Some of these details sound a lot like the SS case, which is not going to end well.
It seems that not many people are as suspicious as I am- nothing wrong with that though.

Yep, does not compute. Her body was found two miles from where she was last seen. What was she doing out there? Common sense tells me she wasn't just out on a two-mile stroll without her phone, wading through creek beds for the heck of it. Take that to Craigslist; I'm not buying it. (Not directed at you, of course!)

She lived in an apartment in her dads house and had a four year old daughter - wouldn’t the little girl have alerted someone that mommy didn’t come home? Or her dad wonder why she wasn’t home to take care of her daughter?
Wouldn’t her dad notice her car wasn’t home all night?

Same page. Cynical me is trying to weigh all variables. IMO find that cell phone, find some answers.

The creeks here in Madison briefly froze over last week when we were seeing below zero temps, but that's the first time they froze this winter and it was only for a day or two.

IMO Amanda didn't go for a stroll and wade.

Thanks, mtnlites. We've had similar weather but it's good to hear from a local.

It's hard to understand why she would go in that direction in the first place, and then why she didn't just walk the road. (See TNW's map - post #84) I wish we knew if she knew somebody in the area, aside from her ex, because if that was the case it's possible she was taking a shortcut through that field. If not, it looks to me like she was running from somebody, possibly trying to stay out of sight.

And, where is her phone? Why didn't she have it with her? Too many unknowns. :(

She literally had to cross over 52 to get to Gibson Bay. That's a crazy road. It's 4 lanes in some places (not right there, but I do believe it's 3 lanes where she would've crossed over). We have more wrecks on 52 than any other road in Estill or Madison counties because people drive like they're insane. The only car wreck we've ever had was right there on 52 close to Lake Reba's entrance. I know lots of people who have been involved in accidents there and we all talk about how unsafe that road is.

Point being: nobody wants to cross over it on foot;most of us don't even like driving on it in our cars.

So yes. It's weird.

Those fields and stuff that she had to walk through...that's a really long, hard walk. We're talking about fences, uneven ground in places, etc.

Something's up.

The park is technically closed after a certain time, but there are definitely ways of getting around that. While it's hard to drive all the way to the lake after the park closes, it's not fenced in. All you have to do is walk around the gate.

I agree.

I took a Google Maps drive of the area. Crossing route 52 (Irvine Road) is something that you would only do if you had to. I doubt she was chased because at that time of the day, there would be a lot of traffic. Image of intersection of route 52 and Concord Road.

Then there aren't really many, if any access points to get back to the fields. It is all fenced. There are some gates that you could probably get past.

Next image shows the distance between the E house (searcher that found the body near a stream on his or his neighbors property) and Lake Reba. I circled the most likely place Amanda would have crossed a stream (if this is the right stream), then a third image of the crossing.

News report from last Wednesday (Amanda disappeared Monday)-

Crews on Wednesday were searching near Lake Reba in Richmond until around 7 p.m., when they wrapped up for the night. They will resume the search Thursday. The search will focus on Reba Lake and Hwy 52.

Police said they do not suspect foul play.

Crews End Search For The Night After Woman Reported Missing

Two days after a woman with a daughter goes missing, and the police do not suspect foul play. Her body is found out in field two miles from Lake Reba where she was last talking with her exBF (his account). Still no mention of foul play.

Interesting that the Richmond Police Department Facebook page has no mention of Amanda going missing or her body being found. But there is information on SS.

Why is everything so quiet...in Madison County?

It's VERY quiet here. I don't know why. Probably because there were no outward signs of trauma on the body so LE is confident that nobody did anything to her. I hope the autopsy shows something they can go on.

I can't imagine walking from where she began to Lake Reba. It may be two miles, but it would be a long, hard walk. Crossing over 52 is akin to crossing over the interstate.

There are several points in that route where she may have gotten close to some security cameras. Knowing which way she entered Gibson Bay would help.

From the WBON TV Facebook page- there is a video feed from Feb. 4 stating that three men have been questioned in Amanda's disappearance/death. They all deny involvement.

I used to work in law enforcement, and I can tell you that people often do things that completely defy common sense; there is no road map to human behavior - it is utterly unpredictable! So many people assume that there's no way a young woman would walk away from friends alone late at night in the winter. And yet, I've seen many that have done exactly this! The biggest problem with inflexible thinking is that if you feel like an investigation should only go in one direction, you will never get to the truth - to the heart of what really happened. The best thing to do is to keep an open mind; second to this is to try and put yourself in the victim's or subject's shoes; think about what you would do in their situation. And remember, when you add in heightened emotions, relationship history, the influence of friends and family, alcohol, drugs, etc it can all become just a huge mess... I've completed over 5,000 investigations, and, up until I left LE I would be surprised by some aspect of the inquiry - on a regular basis! Lastly, I'd caution you against jumping into conspiracy theory; I've found that conspiracies are a product of a misunderstanding of facts, or else lazy thinking.
