Cold Case: The Disappearance of Dolly Evans

High above the hills of Vacaville, Lisa Evans takes in the views surrounding her home. It’s something her mother would do from this very spot.

“I think my mom is sending little signs in her way. I don’t know. Maybe we’ll have some closure,” Evans said.

Her mom, Dolly Evans, vanished more than 30 years ago. On Oct. 1, 1986, she had dinner with her husband and then drove to a friend’s house. But she never made it. For Lisa, not knowing what happened to her mom is unbearable.

Days turned into months. Months turned into years. Three decades went by, as three detectives worked on the case. But they found nothing. No forensic evidence, no witnesses, no suspects. But this past Sept. 15, Dolly’s birthday, Lisa got a call from the Solano County Sheriff’s Department. For Lisa, who doesn’t believe in coincidences, this was another sign.

She and Detective Carrie Hollar, who has re-opened Dolly’s case, made an instant connection.

The file is very limited. But the few pages inside reveal the car was processed. But no DNA or sign of a struggle was ever found. Friends and family were questioned and ruled out as suspects. Detective Hollar believes it will take someone coming forward to find some answers. But she admits, the case is challenging.

I have the impression that her husband knows something... she had dinner with him and then he went home alone and she went to her friend's house? I find it strange... maybe it ended in an argument and he had planned for someone else to meet her on the way... and she disappeared... or maybe she got out to help someone and at that moment she was taken by force and put in a car... it's a sea of questions without answers... surely she is dead..
