Vice Mayor Jason Lee confirmed the incident via Facebook describing it as a 'mass shooting at a child's birthday party.'

'An ice cream shop should never be a place where families fear for their lives,' he wrote.

The shooting took place in the 1900 block on Lucile Avenue in Stockton, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said. The scene is near a Dairy Queen, where several agencies have responded.

It is unclear how severe the victims injuries are.

The shooting is still under investigation and the scene is still active.

Deputies have launched an investigation after a shooting in Stockton Saturday evening.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened along the 1900 block of Lucille Avenue, near Thornton Road.

Few details surrounding the shooting have been released at this time, but deputies said several people have been hospitalized. ABC10 is at the scene and working to gather more information.

Steve is live. Early indications suggest it was a targeted incident. The shooter is still on the loose, we have heard no description. This happened at a family gathering at a banquet hall next to Dairy Queen.

I've heard that Stockton is a rough city. I was wondering the same thing.

I scoured all of the local news sites. LE was being very tight-lipped about the specific circumstances.

Only saying it appeared to be 'a targeted attack.' So I interpret that as a possible gang violence situation if the victims were all related, part of the same family. Sadly enough, that is sometimes how gang retribution works.

South Stockton is a very rough area. There are some some warring gangs which spills over into the public at times.

So, if the shooter is "at large" this seems to be a huge public safety issue. Zero description of the shooter? Race? Gender? Anything?

Gang violence is rampant there. We drove through that area two weeks ago, jumped off the five to avoid a accident that had traffic backed up. Graffiti was everywhere, looks like the City can’t keep up with it in the area we deove through.

Saw mention of a local rapper who may have been a target. Waiting for MSM or LE confirmation.

By now names are usually released..... very interesting that NOTHING is being said. No Suspect, nothing. My mind absolutely goes to gang related...and retaliation a concern

gangs have been around for a long time, but MOO this new breed, they do not observe the generally accepted unwritten rules that once applied to that lifestyle. Things shifted twenty or so years ago IMO. Here's an OG talking about it.

Joe Hunter, known to many as Uncle Joe, is a well-known former gang member who said he is disgusted by what is happening in the Bluff City.

"Any gang member out there or any person out there that's shooting a kid, you deserve to die," Hunter said.

Hunter is outraged at the three men, all suspected gang members, who were arrested in connection with Williams' murder.

"They broke a law, not only in the legal world, but also in the illegal world," Hunter said, explaining the unwritten rule for gang members that you don't break. "You don't kill kids. You don't shoot kids. You don't sell dope where kids are."
[snip]
Hunter says the culture of gangs has changed over the years and more innocent kids are becoming victim to senseless crime.

"It's nothing gangster about that. It's nothing mafia about that," Hunter said.

Speculation: IF this was related to gang activity how very sad. Children growing up in that environment can't even enjoy a normal family activity such as a birthday party without the risk of becoming victims to a war they aren't recruited into yet. JMO

A child's birthday party. A banquet for kids. Why, why, why??
Funerals instead of birthday joy and presents.
Hoping the perpetrator/s is/are found and charged by now.
The sadness will never go away.

YES, it is very unusual that things are being suppressed as much as they are. Not a word about the victims or the suspects race, descriptions, etc.

It seems like LE wants to avoid a violent backlash of some kind. Like if it was a Black family having a birthday party and a Latino was the shooting suspect, or vice versa?

Or if the party was held by Bloods and the shooters were Crips. Or vice versa. Or the birthday party was a family of white skinheads and the shooter was Latino or black?

LE is clamping down hard on any details being released so they obviously know more than they want to share publicly. Usually they would have a basic description of the suspect.

I think it's possible that LE already KNOWS who the suspects are but does not want to cause a gang war, etc.
