Yep here we go ! All these wishes of money. No one is getting a thing. The landlord will file for bankruptcy, Derrick has nothing. The city has resources to fight this for two decades,

If it goes the court will rule that family Jones is awarded 2.6 million, no one is worth is 2.6 million in this

see oj Simpson

they are all better to let it go , mourn - no one is getting any real cash

Can't make tulips out of

In a civil siut your awarded 2.6 million who cares if the person is worth 25,212 a waste of time- and you spent 9.4 years of life to get the award, w3hich you will never see

again see OJ

Most are gonna get nothing- ya wanna sue Ford motor company and are willing to wait for 12 years for your check great

That's how it works - how could it not, you are worth 647,000 dollars and the judgement against you is 1.4 million, they will not make you homeless, they will say you have a net worth behind you living costs --

so we might be able to get 12456 dollars minus 9457 lawyer fees - so you will get 1457 in ten years

So one's realistic choices are to let it go, or try for decade-

to get two thousand dollars - if they are not worth anything you ill get nothing

those that have something will file bankruptcy and start over

Americans have this notion I am suing you sue me my net worth is 17000 ,win a judgement of $786.214- useless

you get nothing- Americans need to grap this

It is solely about net worth that's it!

The lawsuit alleges the interior included flammable materials, such as industrial and art supplies, as well as propane tanks. The electrical system, the suit alleged, often sparked and circuit breakers blew out. On Dec. 1, the day before the deadly blaze, a refrigerator caught fire and tenants extinguished it, the families alleged.

The lawsuits named the neighboring businesses to Ghost Ship, Daniel Lopez and Omar Vega, saying they “manufactured, distributed and/or sold materials to the Ghost Ship … and provided utilities and services to the Ghost Ship, including supply of electricity” through a hole in the wall.
...
Ultimately, Alexander said the tragedy was one that could have been prevented. In addition to monetary compensation for their loss, Alexander said the family is hoping the fire will bring about systemic change with respect to warehouses being converted into housing and assurances that concerts and other events have completed proper safety precautions.

Interesting about the refrigerator catching fire the day before. That must be where the rumor of it being the cause came from.

I found a tidbit about the warehouse & its value in 2015. It said,

..... ment Year: 2015
.....and Value: $43,249
.....sed Value: $43,249
.....Land Use: Warehouse

The page was magnified from the original, so I couldn't tell what the left-hand words/letters were.

It's at 01:40 in the video linked below. There is other info that may be informative to those that haven't already read a lot about this disaster.

Only money speaks.

The defendants will have to pay their lawyers.

I imagine the plaintiff lawyers are on contingency

I imagine there will be 36 lawsuits. Can the defendants go bankrupt on all of them at once or it there some kind of time limit?

What I mean is that all of these suits will not be settled at once.

So how would the bankruptcy work? .I think you can only do it once every seven years.

When one wins a lawsuit, I imagine some assets can be seized. So first one that wins gets something?

Because if the bankruotcy is started at the first lawsuit, can the defendants add the next lawsuits to it?

Does this make any sense at all? What I am asking?

You may be right. I found a little more info on a blog - it's not msm so I can't link it and it should be considered rumor. However, it makes sense. Ng bought the building in 1997 for $130,000 from someone who may have been a relative. It noted that Ng also owns the vacant lot. 1305 is the address of the vacant lot. At one time there was a house there but it burned down in 1998 according to one Permit Complaint History doc. The GS is technically 1315. The auto place next door used 1309 when it was in business but there are no public records for that number. Derick painted 1305 on the GS, calling it Satya Yuga. Did he do it on purpose to stay under the radar or was he also confused?

Alameda county lists 1315 as parcel 25-690-10 and 1305 as 25-690-11 if anyone wants to look further into it. The blogger has screen shots of some of the real estate transaction history but I can't make out the doggone small print. Here's the link to the assessor's site - you can search on parcel number or street address.

https://www.acgov.org/assessor/resources/parcel_viewer.htm

So, the vacant lot is currently assessed at $43,909.00 and the GS is assessed at $413,581.00. Taxes for both total $8022/yr. Income from Derick Ion was $60,000.00/yr. Not a bad return on her investment. And according to msm Ng's real estate portfolio is worth about 5 million dollars. It looks like most if not all the properties have been in the family for a while.

The property values in that video are for the vacant lot at 1305 -- the warehouse is at 1315. Back when it was published MSM was confused as to the addresses.

MOO

ETA: I believe the wording is Land Value and Assessed Value.

What I want to see is anyone who was criminally negligent to be charged. Negligent homicide. That sociopath who had people warning him and telling him and getting into fights with him, who exposed his little children to this danger - he needs to go to prison for start. Anyone else who profited from the people who frequented that death trap or lived there, who knew what it was like, they need to be prosecuted as well.

The lawsuits will likely be consolidated. If they file for BK, what assets they have will be used to pay off whatever debt they have. BK is not a get out of jail free card.

Lawyer's have have started soliciting business from my brother. They are vultures. In the old days, it was against the ethical rules to ambulance chase. Now it's merely "frowned upon".

This is not about money. It is about getting a closure for your pain -- doing all you can, de facto. Negligent ones will be ascertained in a court of law. City will settle.

City will learn it is not alright to bend the law for some.

They should get this 2.6M and more, each, until each and every one even remotely involved in this tragedy is left penniless.

It is solely about net worth that's it!

I think you have to sue to bring proper attention to something that is negligent/harmful/dangerous when it involves putting humans in danger when the one being sued can be shown to be negligent, uncaring, dishonest, etc., etc. Example would be when a company sells a toy that they know will heat up (when it shouldn't) and burn someone or cause a fire; when a company installs a space heater when testing shows 9 out of 10 will short-out and enflame; when a surgeon routinely performs surgery when drunk, etc., etc.

If these lawsuits (and I am waiting so see a possible class-action suit) make the City of Oakland ensure that it has done all it can to make sure this doesn't happen again -- they may have to hire more personnel, or write better procedures, etc., fire someone, etc., and then they need to make sure that those entities are performing as they should. This may entail writing new laws, etc., but something is wrong here and other than marching in the streets, it may indeed take lawsuits to fix it. I don't think the survivors are counting on much money -- IMO -- they want the offenders punished, and they don't want it to happen to anyone else.

Further, I would think that the lawsuits would get the attention of prosecutors, if that part of the city/county is not involved yet. That's really where the action should start and should be -- in the courts, prosecuting those who are responsible.

Why is GS 1315 and right next door 1370?

Hi C, where are you seeing 1370? Do you mean 3071 (the attached building Ng owns)? If so, that is International Blvd, not 31st Ave.

The number of anonymous fire and code enforcement complaints in this city spiked in the two weeks following the Ghost Ship warehouse fire that killed 36 people, casting a wide net that targeted legitimate and unpermitted spaces alike.
fire department received 20 complaints from Dec. 5-16, compared with zero the week before the fire and just one during the week of Nov. 14-18 (no data was provided for the week of Thanksgiving).

Total code enforcement complaints were up 47.5 percent compared with the same time period last year, a marked increase that followed four years of declines.

you know what just hit me--throughout the entire disaster the description -live-work spaces-has the word live in it - IMO media should have only used the word "warehouse" .

"Nobody was living there" well, why is being referred to like that?

I would not say I lived in factory!

A zoo maybe- but def not a factory!!

two community event spaces, Qilombo and Omni Commons, have reported surprise inspections from city officials, the former of which was spurred by a complaint filed with the fire department not captured in the city’s code enforcement data.

Omni’s case, the new complaint was attached to a code enforcement complaint lodged in May.

Several of the complaints filed since the fire about possible illegal dwellings involved warehouses that have long been permitted for housing.

neighbor complained that a two-story house near McClymonds High school “is being used as … Ghost Ship.”

o/t?
oxymoron ?

Two neighbours who live next door to Bennett --not wish to give their names --fear retaliation??????????

onward!

People interviewed by this newspaper say it’s not that they don’t want to make their spaces safe, they just want a reasonable amount of time to bring their buildings up to code.

Hi Jax!

TY that explains it - it was on one of the aerial shots.

It is so strange that NG has never been seen - going on 22 days - they have to go out sometimes?
