*Derick Ion Almena (47), and
*Max Cardin Harris (27), charged (8/10/17) with 36 felony counts of involuntary manslaughter; both plead not guilty. They remain in custody at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on $750,000 bond (was $1.8M) and face up to 39 years in prison each if convicted.
Trial started April 30, 2019 with opening statements & continued on May 1 with testimony which began on May 6. Trial is expected to take 12 to 18 weeks. Trial ended on 7/16/19. Jurors: 9 women/3 men (4 alternates; 5/1: One alternate juror removed due to work hardship. 5/9: one alternate juror removed as “veracity” issues). Court dark on Fridays.

8/1/19 Day 38/Day 2-deliberations: Jury continues deliberations & without reaching verdicts after their first full day of deliberations. They won't return until Tuesday, 8/6 to resume talks.
8/6/19 Day 39/Day 3-deliberations: The jury left the courthouse at 4 p.m. after deliberating for its second full day. Their talks came an extended four-day break. Jury will be deliberating Monday thru Thursday. Deliberations continue on 8/7.
8/7/19 Day 40/Day 4-Deliberations: Earlier in the day, the panel asked Judge Trina Thompson if they could have access to an iPad so they could review evidence in the case. Prosecutors indicated they didnt' have a "clean" device for the jury to use, so the jury might not get access until some time later. No verdict as of today. Deliberations continue on 8/8.
