CA - Maurice Taylor Jr, 12 & Maliaka Taylor, 13, decapitated, Lancaster, Dec 2020 *parents arrested*

It's a difficult hurdle.
It seems like he might have been holding his wife and younger kids hostage but I'm not sure if it was to hold them hostage until he could decide what to do with them or so they didn't tell on his crimes which could be knowledge of guilt.
idk. Could this possibly qualify for insanity? I need more information.
But this act is cray cray!
I believe he would have to be diagnosed as clinically insane. If he just "snapped" or was on drugs for example, an insanity plea wouldn't fly.

The knowledge of having committed a crime and trying to hide evidence of it is critical. I'm not sure as to wether he was trying to to hide evidence was my point.

Regardless. I think the gas leak call was brilliant. I 0lan to steal it if necessary.

LASD hasn't been hit too hard yet. The problem up here in the Lancaster area is that the Lancaster station is one of, if not the busiest station in all of LA County while having the largest area to cover. Their service area is 600 square miles and covers 6 different communities. The deputies are so busy, that sometimes wellness checks will get put off along with other low priority calls.

I really would like to hear Mrs. Taylor’s account of what happened.

I was just pointing out why the first call went by the wayside. It was actually smart of the second called to bring it up as it actually got a response from LACFD

I got the impression from the one interview of the client that they requested a wellness check but weren’t being taken seriously so they used the gas leak story to actually get an officer out there. JMO

MHO: I do wonder if there WAS a gas leak, because he had opened a gas line intending to blow the house up.

Not guilty by reason of insanity is a large hurdle to jump, but you can bet there will be numerous delays even before the trial starts. 5-7 years is not unusual in California as the court system is completely broken in this state. The lawyers will pull out all the stops to delay justice and the court will cooperate. Motions, hearings, continuances, the works. There will also be a parade of psychiatrists filing reports, and who knows if this vicious killer will fake the crazy act to get into their heads and push the insanity defense. That's happened many times before. So this thread will be going for quite a while.

Lancaster murders: Friend stunned by allegations of decapitation, says suspect appeared to be 'devoted family man'
''Linn Mullineaux says she's a longtime friend of the children's grandmother, who lives out of state, and is speaking on her behalf.

"She was pushed out of their lives and that relationship was severed," Mullineaux says. "That was not her doing and that was a very unfortunate thing."

''Kern described his experience with Taylor.

"I don't know whether he's guilty," Kern said. "I do know that the Maurice that I know and the Maurice that everybody else I've spoken with knew from the training place that we work out was that Maurice was a very kind and gentle man. We thought of him as a loving father, a devoted family man."

Kern stressed there should be a thorough and just investigation.

Taylor's arraignment is scheduled for later this month.''

As a lawyer here in California, I don’t find the system broken at all. There are delays everywhere that there’s a high population.

I work in LA, OC, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. No. I do not believe the system in LA is completely broken. It’s just sometimes slow as every court system in a high population is.

I'm not talking about how slow it is as that's expected. It's how cases such as this are and will be charged in the future

Take that up with the DA or the legislature. It’s a charging decision based on the law and information we may not know. It has nothing to do with the LA Court system being “completely broken”.

The DA is the reason why he isn't being fully charged. The directives he issued are why Taylor isn't facing at the minimum LWOP.
