Serving a search warrant can be extremely dangerous. I'd assume they'd do that for felony offenses.

SO....If I understand correctly, now we have 3 little kids who may have seen God knows what happen to their Mom, and who now have police in full tactical gear storming their home?

Can these children ever recover from what seems to be endless trauma? They will likely have some severe PTSD that will need professional care.
I am so disgusted. Poor babies.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The search for a missing Chula Vista mother intensified Friday, as a search warrant was served at her home four months after she disappeared.

Late Friday, the lawyer for Maya Millete's family and Chula Vista Police Lt. Frank Giaime confirmed that officers had served a warrant at the home where Maya, her husband, and her children live.

Giaime went on to say that a U.S. Customs and Border Protection K9 officer is being used in the search and that officers planned to be at the home for several hours to search the entire property. Lt. Giaime added that to protect the "integrity of the investigation," no further details would be released.

The last day family members say they saw or heard from Maya was on Jan. 7. The family's attorney said that she filled out a form the same day, requesting an appointment with a divorce lawyer.

I understand using k9, but can anyone shed light on if there is any significance to the department being customs and border protection?

Having listened to tens of thousands of hours of SD County scanner traffic, I wouldn't jump too far into speculation on that.

Obviously, there is a possibility there is more to that.

But...there is a lot of sharing of resources between agencies in the SD area, particularly with K9s and even air support, which are more limited resource wise than many other 'tools' of the trade.

Given Chula Vista's proximity to the border, and this being done during a time SDPD and SDSO K9s tend to be in high demand (late afternoon into early am hours) it may well be that that's (Border Patrol) who had K9(s) that could be used for several hours.

JMO, but just as one who has listened to a probably excessive amount of scanner traffic among all the SDCO agencies, just thought I'd throw that out there.

I haven’t followed this case, and could be wrong here, but I used to watch a show, I think it was called Border Patrol. Iirc, these agents sometimes assist in matters not relating specifically to “border patrol”, iirc jmo. No reference on this atm, so jmo, but it could also be that this K9 and handler is skilled, nearby, and available to assist. A google search reveals the border is close by.

Detective said that they're using the customs/border protection's resources, which is just their k9. Can't get any better than those dog sniffers.

I know they used dogs of some kind in the Jan. 23rd search warrant. I wanted cadaver dogs then to sniff the house, property, and vehicles. So, I'm relieved to hear a K9 was out there today. Please, please find Maya soon.

We've seen the Lt. (Giaime) and dog handlers and many reporters on the scene but nothing close to police in full tactical gear.

Seems the alleged vison was by a neighbor and told to CBS8 but no reporters on the scene have witnessed police in tactical -- can't verify.

According to News 8 investigative producer David Gotfredson, who's on the scene, all three children are accounted for.
