hmm if there was a significant amount of evidence found, that points away from 'extreme planning' IMO
Not really. All the wigs and license plate changes are evidence of planning and forethought, they just didn't work, and there's probably plenty of video of her wearing the wigs and driving the car with the wrong plates.

Extreme planning doesn't mean GOOD planning. Case in point, those boneheads who were going to invade and enslave an entire island of tens of thousands of people. They had heaps of planning. They went to the extreme of learning the language. But the plans were ridiculous.

MOO

Dec 8 Santa Barbara was notified of finding of female who died by gunshot wounds (plural) to head
Dec 17 LE examined and matched cartridges found at Wayne County crime scene to those found during searches related to AB home and the rental vehicle
FBI notified DNA analysis determined familial DNA match from remains to A

[sbbm]

so how did they get A's DNA?

The Pressor said the remains matched familial DNA (likely both Grandmothers), IMO.

At the Pressor they said she will be tried in SB County, as that was "where the intent was formed".

I depends on what your version of "remote" means. There is quite a bit of traffic through the main road depending on time of year and the geology is beautiful. I went through that area just a few years back and probably stopped a dozen places to get pictures, search out old cemeteries (there is one not too far from there), geocache, etc. I go off road a lot. But it is HUGE out there and the fact that someone found her is amazing. I can only assume that with it being Winter, a lot of what might have covered her up was in Winter mode without snow.

The elevation of Cainevillle, UT is 4600 ft, which is actually kind of low for Utah. It is more like the elevation of Reno, NV.

LE reports the couple found the remains in early December. This has been a remarkably poor year for snow in this area, and the deciduous trees would have dropped all leaves and there would be less ground cover. Melodee's remains would probably not be snow-covered at that time.

If the couple was taking photographs, they were taking them of some trees without leaves and the scenic gray sculpted hills the area is famous for.

It is in a huge area, but this is not remote for Utah or the scenic lands of the West.

Punishment for capital murder

Capital murder is the most serious charge under California murder law. If your case involves one of the special circumstances that elevates first-degree murder to capital murder, you could face the possibility of execution. The punishment for capital murder consists of:
  • The death penalty (either the gas chamber or lethal injection), or
  • A prison sentence of life without the possibility of parole (LWOP)

Punishment for first-degree murder

If you are convicted of first-degree murder under California Penal Code Section 187, you face 25 years to life in state prison. This means that your sentence will be a minimum of 25 years, with the possibility to extend to as long as your lifetime. However, if your first-degree murder conviction was based on a “hate crime” – defined as a crime committed based on the victim’s race, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality – you face a sentence of life without the possibility of parole in state prison. A life sentence without the possibility of parole (LWOP) means that you will spend the rest of your life in prison and will not be eligible for release on parole.

Punishment for second-degree murder

If you are charged with murder in California, you do not have to face this process alone. Speak to us today.
If you are found guilty of second-degree murder under California Penal Code Section 187, you face 15 years to life in state prison. However, there are some circumstances that can increase your potential prison sentence, such as the following:

  • If you have previously served a sentence for a murder conviction, you may face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
  • If you killed your victim by shooting a firearm out of a vehicle with the intent of causing serious injury (a “drive-by shooting”), you may be sentenced to 20 years to life.
  • If your victim was a peace officer, your sentence increases to 25 years to life.
  • You may face life in prison without the possibility of parole if your victim was a peace officer and you:
  1. Specifically intended to kill the officer,
  2. Specifically intended to inflict great bodily injury on the officer, or
  3. Killed the officer using a deadly weapon or firearm.

Additional punishment for murder convictions

In addition to the prison terms above, California murder laws subject you to:

  • An additional 10, 20 or 25-years to life in prison if you personally used a firearm during the commission of the murder; and
  • A “strike” on your record pursuant to California’s “Three Strikes” Law; and
  • Additional sentencing enhancements if the offense is gang-related; and
  • Victim restitution; and
  • A maximum $10,000 fine, and
  • The permanent loss of your right to own or possess a firearm pursuant to Penal Code section 12021, California’s “Felon with a Firearm” law

oooh yes right that makes sense

How on Earth do you get tried where "intent was formed" as opposed to where you actually killed someone? Inquiring minds want to know. If you think about killing someone in 7 states, do you get tried in all of them? What if she hadn't thought of killing Melodee until she got to Nevada, or Colorado? This makes zero sense to me.

During the press conference Tuesday, Brown hinted that Buzzard would be charged in California because that's where the "intent," or the plan to allegedly kill Melodee started.

However, Utah's Wayne County Attorney Michael Winn told KSL Tuesday after the press conference that he hasn't ruled out the possibility of criminal charges also being filed in Utah. He anticipated prosecutors and investigators from all the involved agencies would soon be discussing the next steps in the legal process.

In a social media post, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said the girl's body was found near a road in the Caineville area on Dec. 6. Within 24 hours, the evidence collected determined the victim was likely Melodee from a missing persons case the department had been working on with Santa Barbara officials for several weeks.

so how did they get A's DNA?
I'm pretty sure they took A's DNA when they arrested her for the felony false imprisonment charge.
