I'd really like to see more people that knew about the abuse charged. This child went through so much before she was murdered . Ashlee should have never gotten her back or been allowed to have her back when family had custody. We see this in too many cases , where a child is allowed to return to the parent(s) . This to me is a child that was murdered when it could have been avoided . The judges and courts have turned a blind eye to protecting children !

Those are my thoughts and feelings as well. Utah LE would know next to nothing about AB and her actions/backstory/behaviours.

And if the trial is in Utah, ALL of the important witnesses would have to go spend time in Utah? The CPS and School District employees, etc. All of Melodee's extended family. All of the officers and investigators from Santa Barbata County too?

Basically AB just took a quick detour, drove several miles over the Utah border, and shot her child and left her there. I still don't understand how that one short span of time takes precedence over all of the other events/incidents leading up to that murder.
JMO, but I want her tried in Utah because when Utah gives the death penalty, they actually carry it out.

Strange that she would leave ammunition in a rental car if this was a planned and calculated murder.
She probably didn't think beyond the actual shooting and murder of her daughter.

According to the video in this article Ashlee's mother had not been contacted about her granddaughter's death.

I didn't hear that in the video at your link?

If you read the article it has different information again -

Lilly Denes told the Los Angeles Times that her granddaughter was lovable, always smiling and well-behaved. Denes' son, the child's father, died when she was 6 months old. A detective told Denes on the phone Tuesday that authorities had “found the baby and the baby is with her dad," Denes said.

“I knew he was telling me that the baby is dead," Denes said.

Did she shoot her in Utah in order to get the death penalty herself??

A California woman accused of killing her daughter earlier this year will formally hear the charges against her in court Friday morning as she learns if she’ll be held without bail or released ahead of a trial. Ashlee Buzzard, 40, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 9-year-old daughter, Melodee.

Hmmn, there's no date specified in that article and I can't find another source at this point.
I can imagine the court being on skeleton staff at present, so perhaps next Friday is more realistic.

Buzzard is currently scheduled to appear in Santa Maria Superior Court for an arraignment on Dec. 26, 2025, and she remains in custody at the Northern County Branch Jail without bail added the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.

There have been media coverage requests from NY Post, KSBY, Noozhawk, News Nation and KEYT but so far, none of them have updated today's court hearing.

Ashlee pled not guilty. She also waived her right to a speedy preliminary hearing.
