She didn't hand over the recording though, even after being arrested. If she had, you'd think that no charges would be brought against her in the first place.

The police got a warrant to extract the contents of her phone. The recording was found during that search.

I can imagine that they thoroughly searched through looking for anything that might give clues about Melodee's where abouts as well, but at the same time I suspect Ashlee is clever enough to have wiped or discarded her primary / burner phone after the road trip.

Maybe he was being weird and she was creeped out by it. Maybe she suspected he was trying to entrap her, or maybe it was a safeguarding reaction that most women and femme presenting people have had to resort to in their lives when a man is acting in a way that makes them uncertain of his intentions.

Why did Ashlee have two phones? For someone with limited income and debt, that is not normal. What else did they find in that second phone? I bet she uses WhatsApp or something.

Maybe not, but I think it's entirely possible she is both responsible for her daughter's disappearance and felt uncomfortable at the presence and actions of a man who intruded into her life and home with less than honest intentions. Which, given his behaviour is a fact. He lied to get attention, and used her and her situation to get it.

Full respect to her for the way she handled that situation. This so called "friend" weaseled his way back into her life for his own gain and then cried to the police when she called him out on his lies.

I was expecting her to be less lucid and more eccentric. She was right about his desire for the spotlight and she picked up on that with quickness.

I can feel a certain way about a parent responsible for their child being missing, but there's a very specific feeling of disgust for this excuse for a human being who on realising a social connection with a person with a missing child chose to exploit that purely for attention for himself.

There's a very young child in the middle of this, and his first thought was how to push his way in and get in front of the media.

What if Melodee WAS still alive and his selfish intrusion caused her to be killed out of panic? I'm not saying that has happened, but he had absolutely no way of knowing it WOULDN'T.

He deserves to be charged.

The only possible benefit would be if the search of Ashlee's devices as a result of this produced evidence of Melodee's location, dead or alive.

Yes, I've heard the recording but I think there was a misunderstanding.

It was stated that this recording was obtained by LE after a search warrant for her phone. I haven't seen that anywhere so that's what I was asking about.

Also stated that she had a second phone or a burner, and I hadn't seen that mentioned anywhere either.
