sorry if this is a dumb question, but have authorities been able to get access to the house and search it for signs of what happened to melodee?

Why on earth can't LE do something? Sounds like Ashlee did not have legal custody but took Melodee anyway and was the last person M was seen with. And Ashlee is now refusing to cooperate? In what universe is none of this illegal / worthy of arrest

Authorities say a search warrant served at the home last week did not yield answers as to where the girl is

I haven't seen anything that states Melodee's paternal gma had legal custody. The previous article mentions custody but I'm not clear if that was a temporary agreement or what it was.

That aside, it seems like LE should be able to do something more than what they're doing. At the very least, AB is interfering in a missing person's investigation by her refusal to disclose her daughter's location.

Wasn’t there an update that Melodee was last seen in October? The last seen date seems like a moving target.
correct, the current last seen date per LE appears to be October 7th

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office detectives said Melodee was with her mother as recently as October 7 and may have been driven all the way to Nebraska.

They were spotted making several stops in a rented white Chevrolet Malibu along the way, before Buzzard returned to Santa Barbara and gave the car back.

Bbm

I am so worried for Melodee

(Ashlee’s mother) raised concerns about Ashlee's mental state, recalling a time when she was planned to drop by her daughter's house when Melodee was just a baby, but authorities called her first.

"About 15 minutes later, the sheriff calls me. He says, 'I'm at your daughter's house in Orcutt and I was just getting ready to take your granddaughter, Melodee, with me to CPS because we're getting ready to take your daughter to the hospital,'" Miranda said.

When she arrived at the house, Miranda says it was a mess. … the house was in disarray. There were raw eggs in pans, there was rotten food in the fridge I think she was trying to give my granddaughter,"

Ashlee’s mother, says she first learned her granddaughter was missing when law enforcement called asking if she knew where the child was. Miranda told officers that she hadn’t spoken to her daughter in more than two years.

We’re all looking for answers, but you know, we’re showing up today so that way, you know, [Ashlee] knows we care," Corinna Meza, Melodee's half-sister, told the outlet, adding that they are "here for Melodee and hopefully [Ashlee] will come out and tell us where she’s at."

At the 14:40 mark here FBI assisting search for missing California child Melodee Buzzard the reporter explains that when LM received a call in 2016 about Melodee about to be taken by CPS, Ashlee's older daughter Destiny was also living in the home with Ashlee and Melodee and that she (LM) thought it was Destiny, that Ashlee was trying to feed the rotten food to.

This case just gets more sad with every update.

The info about Ashlee's college attendance is chef’s kiss. Here's the working timeline:

  • 1995: Newspaper lists Ashlee Buzzard as 9 years old in Santa Maria → suggests birth year ≈ 1985–1986. (Posted earlier in thread.)
  • 2002: Declared emancipation at about 16 years old (fits California’s legal age range for emancipation).
  • 2003: Graduated from Santa Maria High School (age ~17). Appears on the school’s Class of 2003 page.
  • 2003–2015: Unaccounted period — no clear public records, schooling, or address history found so far.
  • 2015: Birth of daughter Melodee (Ashlee about 29).
  • Post-2016: Meza passes away; Ashlee reportedly attends college after his death.

Open question:
Where was Ashlee during that decade-plus gap — still in California, in Nebraska, or somewhere else entirely?
She appears to have been employed by the local school district post 2016

I've never seen this site before, but I'm a government employee and it was correct for my employment and salary.

I agree with you. However, when I lived in Denver, in the evening, down on Colfax, the only women that wore those clothes were ________. To me her choice of clothing reflects her thinking process M00.

To me our choice of clothing is a reflection of our thinking process because it communicates our values, moods, identity, and aspirations.

So, for argument sake, let's say I am right. What on earth does black faux leather spandex show about her values, her moods or her aspirations while her daughter is missing and she refuses to be cooperative with FBI and LE. M00
I have a feeling her thinking process isn't like ours!

I can’t see the second salary, but the pay looks like something that a yard duty or some other part-time position would pay. Great find!!

Following, she's such a cutie patootie. Really strange case, I hope she's alive and okay somewhere but it's hard to stay positive considering how the mother has been acting.

With a candlelight vigil this Friday, Melodee’s family on her father Rubiell’s side seeks to keep attention on the case until Melodee is found.

“I think everybody's looking and they'll find her,” she says. “I just hope in the Lord that they find her soon, because this is a lot of a lot of pain for us.”

She also has requested that from now on her missing granddaughter be referred to as Melodee Buzzard-Meza.

She tells us some time after Rubiell died, Melodee had been placed in Lilly’s custody, but that Ashlee went to college taking Melodee with her, and Lilly hasn’t seen her granddaughter since.

I found this article somewhat refreshing....
oh... how i hope this young girl is with us and can be reunited with this family.

I COULD really see Ashlee just hiding all this... JUST so Melodee's grandmother cannot have her.

We have no information that says the grandmother had LEGAL custody.. I think it would be the opposite, and why Ashlee could take her away. I guess I want to be reminded of WHEN Melodee was taken away from paternal grandmother.........??? tia

I think her refusal to cooperate with law enforcement regarding her missing daughter says much more about her values, moods and aspirations than a goofy pair of pants could ever say.

I’ve never been one to judge a woman by her choice of clothing or lack of fashion sense. The ones in the church appropriate clothing also disappear their children at alarming rates.

This case stinks. I hope Melodee is alive and well somewhere safe. I have seen these stories play out too many times to have any measurable hope that she will be located alive, but there is a glimmer.

MOO

Seriously. Can we please stop judging women based on appearance or how they’re dressed? Like you said: there are plenty of conservatively dressed women who commit horrific crimes against their own children. Her leggings are meaningless; her actions speak volumes.
