Homicide investigators search property of missing Valley Center woman

Detectives decided to carry out the investigative effort "after receiving information related to an ongoing investigation," according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

Investigators trying to determine the whereabouts of a missing 65-year-old Valley Center woman searched her rural northern San Diego-area home and property Wednesday.

After reading the article two things came to mind.

If she did have pancreatic cancer in Dec 2023, the chances of her still being alive today are slim. If the cancer had spread the 5 year survival rate is really low. Pancreatic Cancer Prognosis & Survival - Pancreatica.org

Could the diagnosis be inaccurate? If she had other issues (i.e. dementia) could the foster child/caregiver have lied about the cancer to isolate her from other family for reasons unknown, perhaps monetary? I can't see a "caregiver" who may or may not even be trained providing pallative care to someone with pancreatic cancer. Pain management could require morphine based painkiller which would have to be obtained through a doctor/nurse practitioner, and nerve pain (more common on pancreatic cancer) would require amitriptyline and gabapentin, substances I don't see a possibly untrained home health aid dispensing.

A lot of red flags for this one for me personally.

These are all great questions and concerns. I agree that there are many red flags in this case.

I am a caregiver for my dear family member. These types of cases personally disturb me. I’m hoping for justice for Nadine Jett.

San Diego County authorities are investigating the suspicious disappearance and death of a 65-year-old Valley Center woman who was once a prominent family attorney and devoted foster mother.

Nadine Jett, who had been battling pancreatic cancer, has been missing since December 2023. Her family now believes she is dead—and that her estate was stolen by a former foster son.

For the past two days, San Diego County sheriff’s investigators have been searching Jett’s rural property, using heavy equipment to look for human remains. The investigation is being treated as a homicide.

Real estate agent N.L. of Compass Real Estate said she first met Ferdinand last summer, shortly after Jett’s daughters were told of their mother’s alleged death. NL said Ferdinand was attempting to sell the ranch for $1 million, claiming he wanted to give the proceeds to Jett’s four foster daughters.

“I saw what was on the tax rolls, the preliminary title report, and he was named as the owner,” N L said. “But he couldn’t produce a death certificate, and that started raising red flags with me, escrow and title.”

N L said Ferdinand requested that any buyer plant a rose garden in Jett’s memory, a detail that has since gained new significance. On Wednesday, San Diego County sheriff’s homicide investigators began digging near Jett’s home in the exact location where Ferdinand allegedly wanted the garden planted, searching for possible remains.

About a month after investigators looking for a missing 65-year-old Valley Center woman searched her rural North County property, the San Diego Sheriff's Department announced that her skeletal remains had been found on the 20-acre property.

A large hole that had been dug was spotted during the search. Also on Thursday, investigators said that no arrests had yet been made in the case.
