Found Deceased CA - Nancy Paulikas, 55, Los Angeles, 15 Oct 2016

Yes, seems they are. "Hospitals and shelters are called daily to check for Jane Does." http://nancyismissing.blogspot.com/2016/10/speech-at-walk-to-end-alzheimers-event.html

This group is so impressive in their search efforts, yet, sadly, Nancy is still missing. According to this article, "the favored theory of the moment is that Paulikas has been scooped up by the system: that she is sitting in some hospital or shelter, free of her MedicAlert bracelet and hindered by aphasia from aiding in her own rescue. Police suggested this possibility, and it would explain why their “ground game” has not found her." This is a great in-depth article on the search for Nancy. In it, it also says Det. L. Saiza of the LAPD’s Missing Persons Unit speculates that a Metro bus driver may have let her on free of charge, as a reason why she has not been seen or located in the area around LACMA (the museum).

Nancy's husband is a friend of a friend. This has been all over my facebook- glad she has a thread here :) I'm really hoping she's in a shelter or somewhere else safe.
That part of LA is so very busy, with a LOT of potential hiding places, not to mention several parks. I can't imagine the amount of difficulty conducting a search there.

No news, but I cam across this feature article about Nancy:

Before Alzheimer's, who was Nancy Paulikas?

Paulikas is much more than a missing woman with Alzheimer's. She is a software engineer, certified pilot, avid reader, animal lover, music lover, skier and backpacker.

She grew up in Palos Verdes, where she attended Palos Verdes High School. After graduation, she attended the University of California Davis, where she majored in math and computer science. She would eventually go on to earn a Master's degree in computer science from UCLA.

Paulikas worked for TRW/Northrop Grumman as a software engineer, where she met Moody in 1981. The two started dating in 1988.

After a 10-year stint at TRW/Northrop Grumman, Paulikas went to work for ITG, a financial services firm. She was ultimately put in charge of the software group. She helped the company grow from 20 to 200 employees.

“She was an extremely successful and accomplished business woman,” Moody said.

Lost more at the link, including some different pictures.

For some reason I thought Namcy had been found. I'm deeply saddened to learn she is still missing. What a wonderful life she's had, with a respectable career and terrific legacy. It's a devastating blow for such an intellectual to have fallen victim to Alzheimers. It's been a month now. Where could she be?

How could a middle-aged woman with Alzheimer's, no money and no transportation vanish in Los Angeles?

According to their blog and the article, it is presumed (hoped) she is in a facility such as a hospital or convalescent home, possibly under a different name. I hope she is and that she is okay, and they stumble upon her soon. I wonder if she has moments of clarity that would allow her to remember her name or some other identifying memory. I hope she is not all drugged up somewhere and unable to think critically as she used to.

Is it normal practice for a facility to put out a public call in attempt to identify the Jane does that come into medical facilities?

If she's in a shelter somewhere, wouldn't they realize she has Alzheimer's and contact a hospital?

These two pictures don't even look like the same woman to me. I wonder which one is the more current picture?

Hope she is found safe!
They do to me- face is the same, just different hair color.

I don't know about hospitals and what they do with living Jane Doe's, but most shelters I'm familiar with would only contact a hospital if she seems to be a danger to herself or others (and would probably call 911 in that case). Sadly, there are many mentally ill and even chronically ill people living on the street. It probably varies by shelter, however, what their policy is on that. I hope by now Nancy's loved ones have distributed fliers to all the shelters, soup kitchens and hospitals and someone is regularly checking to see if she has been seen at any of them. It's just so sad she has been gone this long :(

The homeless population in downtown LA has grown immensely in the last few years. Encampment are well outside of the traditional "street city" areas. It's possible that Nancy hopped a bus (Line 20) that terminates right near the largest homeless camps (Crocker St.).

The weather up until last week was very mild. It's possible she could be surviving among the homeless.

Nancy, you poor sweet woman. Where are you? It breaks my heart that she could be scared and lost out there.

From the find page: "At this time, one of our strongest theories is that Nancy is in a care facility, but that she is in there under the wrong name.

This could have happened because of her very limited verbal skills and probable lack of identification.

We’ve heard a number of accounts of Missing Persons who get into a care system and are later found. After weeks, months, or even years, they “pop-out."

From Find page:

"Dec 26 Weekly Update - and How You Can Help (Again)
Last week we finished up calling all the hospitals, Skilled Nursing Facilities (Nursing Homes) and the residential care facilities for which we received returned mail. Thanks to Peg and her team for that! (Over 1300 entries in the call log ... probably many more phone calls than that).

This week we'll concentrate on physically visiting some facilities."
