Just saw this, so I saw the press conference after it started. Suspect in custody, Carlos Fuentes Flores (sp?). He led them to her body, which was found off Hwy. 58. All info from the press conference linked above.

Yes, they indicated he was a painter. Apparently, his contact with her was limited.

Remains of missing Paso woman found; murder suspect arrested

The remains of Nancy Woodrum, the Paso Robles woman who has been missing since May, have been found and a suspect arrested on suspicion of murder, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Carlo Alberto Fuentes Flores of Paso Robles, the Sheriff’s Office said.

On Dec. 18, Fuentes Flores was interviewed by sheriff’s detectives and led investigators to her body in an area off Highway 58 in a rural eastern part of the county, the Sheriff’s Office said. The remains were positively identified as Woodrum’s.

This is the darndest thing. How does someone who has limited contact with the victim, decide to abduct her and kill her?! Was he looking for money; was she an easy mark or what?! I'm sorry if this sounds naive but it's crazy!

Maybe it's an example of what Hannibal Lechter (fictional character from Silence of the Lambs) said about "coveting" something/someone you see every day. (paraphrasing here ). If it turns out that this perp was a contractor working on/nearby her property, it's a sobering thought that single women are at risk even when they're "safe" at home. IMO

This has been one of those oh-so-quiet cases, where we sometimes wonder if there are no leads at all, or any searches. This goes to show that a work and effort is definitely going on behind the scenes and results can be gotten.

Yes, behind the scenes. We now know they had to wait for DNA results to come back from the DOJ lab. Then, though they didn't say this, had to get a dna sample from Flores. Likely without his knowledge. Like going through his garbage can, or following him and grabbing a straw. Once they had the match and they confronted him, Flores led them to her body. I'll be very interested to hear what the motive was.

I was just thinking about Nancy the other day. When I went on reddit today someone had posted the update on an article I had made months ago.

Wish I could shake the detectives’ hands. Im sorry for her family, as while it must be a slight relief to know, it’s still devestating news to hear. It’s scary that it was for all intents and purposes basically a stranger.

In my earlier posts I was critical of the silence from Nancy's family but I guess they were probably instructed not to say much so as not to interfere with LE's investigation. RIP Nancy.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office filed a complaint claiming Carlo Alberto Fuentes Flores, 42, of Paso Robles killed Nancy Woodrum, 62, who had been missing for seven months when her body was recovered on Tuesday.

Sheriff’s detectives interviewed Fuentes Flores on Tuesday, and he led investigators to her body — located in a field off Highway 58 — on the same day.

Fuentes Flores also allegedly raped Woodrum and burglarized her rural Paso Robles home, according to the complaint.

The complaint includes two allegations of special circumstances for having allegedly committed murder while engaged in the commission of rape and residential burglary. The allegations mean that prosecutors could seek the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
