GUILTY CA - Nancy Woodrum, 62, found deceased, San Luis Obispo County, 5 May 2018 *Arrest*

I am curious if Flores has a prior criminal record. The attack on Nancy was very brazen and violent.
Did Flores think Nancy had left with the wedding party and wasn't expecting her at home and then Nancy confronted him and he freaked out or was this premeditated by Flores. Nancy's Family spoke to her the night of May 4 but she didn't show up to a 9:30am appointment the following morning which makes this crime had a small window of opportunity and how did he remove her body from the property w/o anyone noticing. If Nancy was living in the caretaker residence maybe its some distance from the rental property and maybe none of the guest were able to see or hear anything that night. This all very strange and so sad.

He will be back in court on January 3rd to plea, guess we'll see if anything new is announced.

I'm going to say Flores will sign a plea deal for LWOP, rather than go to trial. Not much wiggle room when you lead cops to the body.

Hi, this is my first post on webslueths. I was in Paso Robles in June and saw the missing person posters. I’ve been sporadically checking in ever since. I even created a Reddit hoping to get some leads (nothing interesting came of them). But I did come across something in my research and I’ve wondered if it is related. I hope this is not considered “rumor mongering.” Rather, another case was happening at roughly the same time:

Paso Robles police officer accused of on-duty rape

This Paso Robles police officer is accused of having been called to a crime scene and then raping the very woman who called!!! He was put on paid leave on May 9th, just days after Nancy went missing. Police had been at her property the Friday before she was reported missing according to reports. I want to know....was he one of the officers!!!!??
It seems like Nancy never existed. How sad.
Rest in peace, Nancy, we love and miss you, and are here making sure justice is done for you.

Yeah, too true on wiggle room being limited. Still here, Nancy and your loved ones, we are eagerly awaiting a speedy trail of FF and justice for Nancy!!!!!!!!!

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office won’t seek the death penalty in the murder case against a 42-year-old Paso Robles man accused of killing a 62-year-old North County hair stylist.

Instead, the DA’s Office announced Thursday that it will pursue life in prison without parole for Carlo Alberto Fuentes Flores, who’s charged with the premeditated murder of Nancy Woodrum of Paso Robles.

Additionally, Fuentes Flores faces the special allegation of murder while committing rape and residential burglary.

Did they ever announce COD?

I’ve followed this case closely, and to the best of my knowledge, they haven’t. Sorry that isn’t helpful but I’ll do some research tomorrow after work and will post if I find anything of importance.

Wow. I’ve been offline a while and am sadly happy to see a conclusion. RIP.

Alleged killer of Paso Robles woman can stand trial for murder

A San Luis Obispo judge ruled Friday enough evidence exists for a North County man to stand trial for the murder of a popular Paso Robles hairdresser.

Investigators determined DNA evidence in the case matched Carlo Alberto Fuentes Flores, a painter who Woodrum had hired to do work at her home. Fuentes Flores then led investigators to Woodrum’s body in a rural area off Highway 58 in eastern SLO County.

Fuentes Flores, a 44-year-old Paso Robles man, is charged with first-degree murder and enhancements for committing the crime amid a rape and burglary.

Fuentes Flores faces the the possibility of life in prison without parole if convicted of the murder charge and enhancements. The defendant has remained in custody in the SLO County Jail since his Dec. 2018 arrest.

Last year, a request to keep the media out of the courtroom for future hearings involving FuentesFlores was denied.

Woodrum, 62, was a popular hairdresser last seen alive in May 2018.

FuentesFlores was arrested that December after the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says he led them to Woodrum’s body off Highway 58 in eastern San Luis Obispo County.

Investigators say FuentesFlores was hired to paint the deck on Woodrum’s property in the week leading up to her disappearance.

During last week’s preliminary hearing, the DA’s Office says a motion to suppress the defendant’s confession to the murder was also denied.

Retired detective reflects on Nancy Woodrum murder case

PASO ROBLES — Friday, May 5 marked the five-year anniversary of the murder of Nancy Woodrum. The Paso Robles hairdresser, mother, grandmother, and friend was murdered on Cinco de Mayo in 2018. The Paso Robles Press sat down with recently retired San Luis Obispo County Detective Clint Cole to discuss the case from his point of view.

Cole retired from the Sheriff’s Department on March 10 after over 32 years of service, 10 of those years as a detective. In 2018, he was completing his first year serving as the first detective in the county’s cold case department. He is now famously known as the lead investigator on the Kristin Smart case, closing it after 26 years. While off duty at home on May 5, 2018, he received a call to come out to the suspicious scene of a missing woman’s home.

Woodrum lived off Geneseo Road towards the town of Creston. She lived alone in a studio apartment on the property with her daughter in another home there. Another larger home on the property was used as a vacation rental. On the weekend of her disappearance, a wedding party was renting the home.

Thanks for posting, it was interesting to read the details of the investigation. Particularily the Geofencing aspect, the location of her home was very rural, which should have made that easy to decipher.

This case was local to me.
