"Oops - looks like a motion to continue trial was granted...."

Why am I not surprised?!

Where did you "see" that - trial continued? TIA! :)
Court site still has it on. And couldn't find any motions filed for this continuance.

Your post from June, referring to the trial date being moved to October. Mickey was commenting on that motion to continue. There isn’t a new one that I know of. 😊

I could see another 2-3 years before a jury is selected and an actual trial begins. Or more. It's unreal how courts permit these delays.

No. I see this continuing forever, finally perpetrator will be found "incompetent" for trial, and it just keeps spinning forever. Move to just keep rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

We saw this in the trial for Jose Barahona. No trial date, he changed attorneys several times, now "incompetent". Whatever.

Just an FYI - Barahona was found competent to stand trial on 7/23/25. Next status hearing 9/19/25.

edited to add - 15 years.... this case has been going on....

When I see "status hearing" I expect another 3-5 years before trial.

I have tried to follow some truly horrific crimes here that end up just disappearing in the court system. One of the worst is this one:

Last court hearing was in 2023 and now any record of this monster has vanished into thin air. He's not in prison, he's not in jail, and there's no further record anywhere.

Maybe he's in a mental institute - ?? and HIPPA rules, etc. Do you recall what county?

The murder happened here in Long Beach, L.A. County.

That poor woman, walking back to her home after delivering food to her neighbor, had her head bashed in by a crazed homeless man.

There are many young homeless men who are either on drugs or just straight out insane, and many of them are armed with knives. Neighborhoods are not safe to walk in anymore, and police are stressed, their numbers way down.

Yes - I have to agree the L.A. County court site is not the greatest. Do you have a case # for Redding? I probably should be posting on his thread.... I shall see what I can find.

I don't have access to the county court records without a paid subscription and I don't want to do that.
I'm guessing he's been confined in a state mental hospital, judged incompetent to stand trial. I certainly hope so.

A ray of hope. I've seen this many times here in Los Angeles so am fully prepared for more years of delaying tactics. Really, the courts are incredibly broken here. It's a scandal.
We'll see what happens...

She will probably either plead guilty for some quick plea deal, continue, or go with incompetent.

I really hope she will get some hard time in prison but you're probably right.

She could possibly go with an insanity defense. And possibly even be found "not guilty" by reason of insanity. I am not sure where the drug use will be on that continuum.
