Well, we won't be sending any firefighters to LA. We have about 40 bushfires and grass fires going at the moment around the country. And, no doubt, more to come - as we are in the height of our bushfire season.

Did anyone catch this live last night (or maybe it's in one of the articles you all posted)? as they were reporting about the drone that downed one of the planes, they were saying whoever was flying it had to override the programming so it could fly in the no-fly zone. In other words, this was super intentional and the person didn't just "make a mistake."

I was wondering how the media are getting some of their aerial pictures. Are they putting aircraft up and/or drones? Hopefully they are observing the no-fly zones and just using long range lenses.

The death toll has reached sixteen.

I think, looking at the numbers, these latest are Eaton fire victims, but to be honest, all the numbers are blurring together at this point.

I am pretty sure Montana has sent firefighters and equipment to fight the fires in California. We watch the Slush Bombers take off, they fly low because of the water load.

I think they are using drones (with permission) and helicopters. I think the major outlets would be smart enough to be sticking to the zones they're allowed to be in. They value their access and it's not worth the bad PR for them if it comes out they're doing this.

These are going to be freelancers, youtubers, and general boneheaded members of the public who don't care about the risks to everyone, not least the air crews putting their lives at risk with every manoeuvre.

The grief that's felt when an air firefighting crew is lost cannot be adequately described. We haven't had that happen in this crisis, yet, but every person who decides to be selfish enough to launch a drone illegally could be responsible for the deaths of others. It's that simple.

Los Angeles County Fire Department, alongside other city leaders, will host a virtual conference at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to update homeowners about the ongoing battle against the Palisades Fire.

Pasadena shelters are moving into a new phase of housing animals longer term, as their humans may no longer have homes to return them to.

Advice for those unable to self evacuate, including those with disabilities.

A note from me that this advice would not have helped the father and son in the Eaton fire or Rory in the Palisades fire. The father and son died waiting for ambulance evacuation, and there was no answer when Rory's mother repeated called 911.

Yes, the LA-based news people are putting up their regular traffic helicopters and that is why the commentary is so smooth and good. These people are used to talking in a flying craft.

KTLA is able to also overlay a basic map with named streets in many areas, which helps (me) immensely in trying to figure out where they are and the relative relationship of the fire to streets that I can then follow on a Google map. They mentioned that they had observed what seemed to be a large unauthorized drone that was in a position to menace them and the aerial firefighting crafts. I'm sure they reported it and I hope the person(s) doing this are apprehended.

Quite some years ago, a bushfire came terrifyingly close to us. We could see it coming. At the same time, a fire crew was knocking on every door in our (very long) street, noting every home which had a swimming pool. Was this being done in LA, does anyone know? Thankfully it didn't get to us.

They have been using pools, especially in areas where the hydrants have been unavailable. But a pool isn't pressurised like a hydrant, so they need a pump to make it work.

And many citizens have been using them to try and control flare-ups. Basic buckets and such, pouring them wherever they see flame in the ashes.

Mix This!, home recording studio of Bob Clearmountain, has been destroyed. Artists like Springsteen and the Rolling Stones had albums where Mix This! played a part.
