CA - Paradise Father Daniel Eastman-25, Arrested in Death of 5-Month-Old Baby

PPD detectives were called in to assist with the investigation. Based on their findings, it was determined that the baby's father, 25-year-old Daniel Eastman of Paradise, was intoxicated and fell asleep on the baby, which led to the infant's death. As a result, Eastman was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail on charges of child abuse resulting in great bodily injury or death and manslaughter. His bail was set at $80,000.

Paradise father Daniel Eastman has been arrested on charges of manslaughter and child abuse after his 5-month-old baby died from being accidentally smothered, the Paradise Police Department said.

Based on the details I'm seeing so far, the quick arrest and manslaughter/child abuse charges seem excessive? It would seem not to be intentional? Wonder where Mom was? I guess more details will be forthcoming.

It does seem strange, usually there is a period of investigation, with an arrest days, weeks, months later. I wonder if the dad was so drunk it was obvious he wasn't in the right state of mind to care for an infant?

Such a shame.....he appears to have had a very beautiful.family.

Was he the only caregiver at the time? How long was he passed out? If he was solely in charge of baby's care, getting drunk was a terrible idea.

If you look at their facebook pages, seems like an intacct, happy, little family. In cases like this, where the death seems to be accidental. I don't think legal action, could even come close to how the parent punishes themself. This is very, very, sad, JMO.
