First to speak is Jen Yao, Philip's wife. "Even when we think we're in control, accidents can happen." Her voice cracks as she speaks. I can't imagine her heartbreak @KTVU

"We can't possibly ever truly express our appreciation and gratitude enough to really truly acknowledge what you have all done for us. Family friends volunteers, people who know Philip. People who don't know Philip" @KTVU

Volunteers organized every day since Philip went missing three weeks ago. Yao thanks all of them, including many of those who took off days of work to offer help @KTVU

More appreciation and gratitude. Hundreds of volunteers really showed this family as much love as they could. "I just love the people we've met here" @KTVU

I was watching live but didn’t see anything about Philip — but there is video of the family’s comments on the Find Philip Kreycik facebook page.
I did not see that video, do you happen to have a link?

Good point. If they weren't found with him that leaves open the possibility that others suggested earlier, that he lost the keys during the run and became disoriented while looking for them in the heat.
Take car keys but leave cellphone? Makes little safety sense. Runners have lightweight ouches to wear to keep phones, car key, even water pouches designed for runners. Pouches to go around waist or wrap around wrist, ankle, etc.

Thank you for posting the link. Wow, that was really hard to watch. So sad. Glad Jen and the very small kids have a lot of family support.

I don't think it's a best practice, but I have seen runners put car keys in their wheel well or hide it under something near the car (bush, under a rock) because they don't want to have the extra weight on them. Cell phones stay in the car. Again, I don't think this is a best practice but some do it. IMO
