An hour ago on the Help Find Phuong Facebook, Phuong's brother Tuan replied to someone that the family still has no news.

Sadly until they have a positive ID they aren't going to hear anything. The waiting is just horrible for the family. My heart goes out to them.

ETA- I believe Tuan is a family friend and Huong is actually the brother. Thought I read that on FB last night anyways.

It is hard to believe they would not be able to confirm identity by now...at least by dental...they have had the body for 24 hours...what could be taking so long, it is not as though she had been missing for years and they would have very little to work with...I am confused...I understand why WE can't know but the family?

I have a feeling that it has to do with their "suspect". And, I do think there is a suspect.

Oh I thought Tuan was also Phuong's brother. Sorry. :blushing:

I hope there is a suspect...but that probably means the ex-boss...and was hoping it would not be him :(

Dental records are not something family have laying around. It takes time to contact the dentist and get a hold of them. (Especially since police didn't make contact with the family till last night)

Also, ME's usually work regular hours, so although the coroner would have picked the body up from the scene yesterday (I am guessing it was afternoon), the autopsy wouldn't even begin to take place till sometime today. It's 11:40 CA time.

Last night, the discovery location got me thinking...

. Phuong may not have personally put her backpack in the trunk. It wasn't her habit. We know this because her brother was immediately surprised when he opened the trunk and found all of her belongings there. If she didn't put her bag in there, someone else did. Perhaps they took her belongings (cell phone, wallet, etc.) off of her person, stuffed them in the bag, and separated the bag from the body to avoid identification.

. I'm leaning toward the possibility she knew her killer. From the last description of her demeanor, she was upset and distressed. She would've called a confidante to be there for her. Confidante meets her (in secret, because the two of them might have a reason to be discreet). She gets into his vehicle to "go for a drive" (along Wooden Valley Road) with him to talk while she's upset. Maybe she tells him something he doesn't want to hear? An argument ensues and escalates. A crime of passion and opportunity.

. I'm also thinking her car keys might be on her person, in the killer's vehicle (perhaps unknowingly to him?), or at the site where the body was found. The car keys might be the reason there's an issue of jurisdiction.

??? Just brainstorming....

Further...this might also point to someone who knew her well, if they were acquainted enough with the vehicle to know you could pop the trunk from the inside.

It's possible her keys might turn up, providing a clue to suspect and/or location...

As far as dental records...sadly, I think LE would have asked them before now to have dental records available...at least I know they have done in other cases when someone is missing and foul play seems likely. LE does not like to have bodies go unidentified for very long. I just think they must know but are not releasing info yet and asked family not to. I don't think search would have been cancelled if they were not certain or as certain as they could be.

PS- my car is old...a '98...and trunk opens from inside...I think it is very common...

On HELP FIND PHUONG Facebook page it was posted, 23 minutes ago, by Phuong's brother "Search party has been cancelled". This was the search party planned for Saturday - tomorrow. God Bless my friend, Phuong.
I am so very sorry for all of Phuong's friends and especially her family.

My heart is breaking. I hope its not Phuong, but I am afraid it is. My prayers for her dear parents and her family. May they find the person who did this quickly.

I agree they do ask family for dental but not likely 12 days in.

It's usually after 30 days into a missing person case that the state will ask for dental records. Federal law says they are suppose to by 60 days.

It was 30 days before they asked Morgan's parents for them.

Anyone local, please help me out here! Looking at maps it seems this location is a way from where she was last seen. And of course, assuming the remains found are Phuong. Is this someplace she and Nguyen would've gone together? Or does it seem now it could've been someone else who abducted her? If Nguyen is relying on video surveillance that he never left home that day, it would just surprise me he'd go so far away to dispose of her. :waitasec: MOO

I think they're probably also trying to get COD and MOD before making an announcement.

Really depends on the dept as to dental records. I've seen them retrieved in cases a week old just to have on hand, others they don't go for until they find the body (or the max time allowed whichever comes first). So, who knows.

Early this AM on WS, a friend of Phuong's told us that the road her body was found also goes past the school she just graduated from. I thought that was significant. moo
