PS- Please don't take my post as thinking anyone in P's family could have harmed her...I can't imagine that. I just think LE is on to something...also very curious about what special equip. they needed and did not have...

Certainly the ME has rape kits to check for sexual assault! That reference to 'special' equipment leaves alot to the imagination. This case is horrible. moo

Of course not. :) I think LE's been doing a great job, too, despite the various pressures they're facing.

I'm just not happy with the choice of words the journalist used in writing this particular article. I know it's fact, because she did indeed disappear following an argument with a family member. I just think the inclusion of the fact in this way was kind of insensitive. (I also acknowledge I've been pretty hypersensitive with this whole case. That's probably because I've felt such a connection with Phuong and her family, but also because I'm in the throws of prenatal hormone fluctuation. ;) My apologies!)

In any case, I'm so glad there is continued coverage of Phuong's case. I've read so many cases lately that have virtually no coverage at all. I guess we just can't win. :(

Still, the length of time to ID her is just mind-boggling to me. It makes me think horrible things that may not even be true, as to what might have been done to her, etc...just leaves room for all kinds of speculation. And almost seems as if punishing the family, in a way, to make them wait for official confirmation. What on earth could be the hold-up, surely this county has done plenty of autopsies and ID's in the past. I guess they could be concerned about the attention this case has been given and fear making any mistakes...

I agree the wait seems entirely unjustified. Call me blindly faithful, but I'm going with the assumption LE has truly been unable to make a positive ID because of some technical unavailability or some such. I'm assuming they want the ID as badly as everybody else but truly haven't had what they needed.

Of course, I could be wrong and maybe someone has dropped the ball or made some poor judgment calls. Will we ever know for sure what the hold up has been and if it's justified? I wouldn't even try to guess.

But I'll keep the faith and believe (for now) LE is choosing their steps very carefully with future developments in mind. I believe it for Phuong and her family.

The CBS5 article mentioned a more precise location of the area where the body was found. Did you all catch that?

I did not catch that the first time. Thanks, i.b.nora.

I tried previewing that stretch of road that would be "5400 Monticello" according to Google maps, satellite image and street view, and what I'm noticing is there is no where to pull over! Unless you pull off down someone's unpaved driveway. Maybe I'm not getting a clear visual of the area? But it seems like someone would have to be A) desperate, B) ballsy, or C) reeeeally familiar with that precise area to have the presence of mind to dispose of a body there. There just seems to be so much risk!

Okay, I need to do some upgrades on my system software and stuff before I can use all the Google map features but... I don't know if you are or have been a dog owner, but if you were driving along, and your dog needed to pee or poop, where in that area would you be inclined to pull over and let your dog out?
Also, we don't know if it was on the west side or the east side of the road. So we need to look on both sides.
In the early morning KTVU news this morning they showed video footage of I guess is the area, and they described it as being heavily wooded, and it looked heavily wooded in the video, as opposed to some other description we had seen of low scrub brush.

Claudine Wong for KTVU News reporting live from the Solano County Sheriff's Office, Coroner.
Autopsy was scheduled to begin at 10:00 am but was delayed while waiting for FBI agents to arrive with some special equipment. Finally got underway at about 11:30 am. Could take two hours to several hours or more.
Sheriff's are there, FBI, Fairfield police, lots of people involved.

Oh my goodness :-( How does special-equipment-needed fit in w/ the theory that it was an unexpected death from an argument gone south followed by a quick dump by an inexperienced perp?

It might be more beneficial if we look at other map alternatives, too, because Google maps don't show any boundaries for the 5400 block. It simply provides a marker (which probably isn't precise at all), and a viewer has to estimate from there.

The area I previewed didn't look "heavily wooded" to me, so it's probably I wasn't looking at the right area.

On that portion of road, from what I've seen of Monticello from the Wooden Valley junction north, I'd pull into a private driveway to let my dog out. There's no way I'd pull onto the "shoulder," because from what I've seen, there really aren't any/many.

That makes sense, too, that the woman with the dog may have pulled into a driveway, because that would automatically put her several yards distance from the road without having to surmount any fences, bushes, ditches, etc. on foot to get that far out.

I shudder to imagine it.

Other than some special brand of violence, I'm thinking the level of decomp would require it. :(

Does anyone know where her ex-boss lives?

So, if you were dumping a body would you pull into someone's driveway?

I didn't think of that, you're probably right.

I'm just so sad.

Definitely not. But panicked and in the face of no other options? I wonder if the perp had no choice? Or felt he had none?

How about where she lived?

If anyone else is interested in exploring the "5400 block" of Monticello, here is the range to look in. I did a composite by plotting the 5300 block and the 5500 block on Mapquest. 5400 should fall in the area indicated (give or take).

I compared the coordinates with those given by Google Maps and Yahoo Maps, too. They pretty much align.

That's what I'm thinking - special fingerprinting equipment because of decomp. But they should be able to get a dental match.

The other thing would be the fancy equipment that lets you take fingerprints of someone else off a body. Wasn't there a case where they actually got the perp's fingerprint right off the victim's eye?
