North Hills man eligible for death penalty after charge in wife's death

A 69-year-old North Hills man was charged with murder Thursday in connection with his wife’s death weeks after he was charged in his son’s death, making him now eligible for the death penalty, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Prosecutors allege that Shehada Issa killed his wife Rabihah Issa, 68, with a knife sometime between March 27 and March 29. The matriarch was found dead in the bathroom of the home with multiple stab wounds on March 29, according to authorities

A North Hills man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that he murdered his 68-year-old wife and his gay son at their home.

Shehada Issa is charged with two counts of murder stemming from the stabbing death of his wife, Rabihah, some time between March 27 and March 29, and the shotgun shooting death of his 38-year-old son, Amir, on March 29.

The murder charges include the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. Prosecutors have yet to decide whether to seek the death penalty against him.

An angry husband thought that he had committed the "perfect crime" by killing his wife and blaming it on his gay son, whom he claimed to have shot to death in self-defense, a prosecutor told a San Fernando jury Tuesday, but a defense attorney countered that his client told the truth about the two deaths.

Shehada Issa is charged with two counts of murder stemming from the stabbing death of his wife, Rabihah, some time between March 27 and March 29, and the shotgun shooting death of his 38-year-old son, Amir -- known as Rocky -- on March 29. A North Hills man has been found guilty in the 2016 shooting death of his son and the stabbing death of his wife.

Shehada Issa, 69, is expected to face life in prison without the possibility of parole when he returns for sentencing on Oct. 26.

North Hills father gets 2 life sentences plus 26 years for murders of wife, son

Family members said Issa was a monster to his wife.

"Little did she know he was going to slaughter her and slaughter their son," said Shadiah Graham, Issa's wife's sister.

Even the judge choked up before sentencing Issa to two consecutive life sentences plus 26 years for the murders which included a hate crime.

"He is 71 years old now. He will die in prison," said prosecutor Emily Cole.
