Oh no ... so incredibly sad. Beautiful young woman with two treasured babies. Why Why Why are so many relationships ending in violence? Godspeed Rachel, Grandma and Grandpa and Auntie will take good care of your babies, we will pray for them. Moo

That's why I'm thinking the east end of the valley somewhere between Llano and the county line. Plenty of places both north and south of the 138 and north of the section of the 18 that is in LA County. I'm also wondering how the pinpointed the location of the body so quick.
his phone probably

The main locations in this case are rather far apart, and so I am trying to understand what all might have happened and how they solved this case within a weekend.

Multiple news articles say the suspect is a resident of Hawthorne, an area down in the Los Angeles metro near LAX. She and her sister and sons, and her parents nearby, lived an hour north in Simi Valley area near Thousand Oaks.

So exchanging the boys for the weekend is not popping across town for a few minutes to drop them off or pick them up. With likely traffic, it’s a 3 hour round-trip between Hawthorne and Simi Valley.

Then Victorville, where the suspect was arrested at his parent’s house, is nearly 2 hours from Simi Valley. Through a significant mountainous region into the arid Central Valley.

So, in my opinion, all of these distances make it very unlikely that the ex exchanged the kids somewhere, dropped them off, and then popped back to fight with or kill Rachel. Not when there is three and four hour round trips involved, and he would have to leave his children somewhere for half the day. Everything had to happen between Thursday mid morning and Thursday evening.

I’m still not clear if she dropped off the kids in Hawthorne, or if they met somewhere halfway to exchange, or if he came to her place in Simi Valley to pick them up.

But regardless he ended up at her place, hopefully with the kids in the car versus in the house, and fought with her. The murder seems spontaneous and unplanned, because it is a huge mess with tons of evidence that was very easily solved.

Speculating, Likely they got into an argument, whether about the divorce or the child support or maybe the kids told him something that their mother had said that he didn’t like. So they fight, and he is enraged, and he is physically attacking her escalating all the way to killing her with blood everywhere.

Then he washed all the blood off himself and threw her in the back of his vehicle with kids in their car seats and drive towards Victorville?! Horrific

Antelope Valley, where he dumped her, is an hour and a half from Simi Valley along the two hour route to Victorville. If it was all unplanned, and carried out on Thursday on the drive to Victorville, then he likely had his phone on him. If that is how the body was located in a “very remote location” within days.

Moo
agree w all but bbm victorville is more high desert. its not in central valley. that ends at bakerfield.

Rachel's Father Chris is a retired FBI Special Agent, so I hope this is helpful to finding Rachel.

In the video at link, Chris says "lot's of blood on the floor, walls and ceiling". Rachel's Mom says "I know they (kids) had been picked up by their Father earlier in the day, because Rachel had texted me when that occurred".

What a terrifying situation, so hard to believe with the level of violence in the apartment, no one heard or saw anything. Look at the configuration in the video, common walls and two story.

Also curious why Rachel texted her Mom when pick-up occurred, was that normal or was there a reason for that?
Blood on the ceiling would imply some type of weapon being swung with blood on it, as in when someone is hit in the head repeatedly with a bat or crow bar (so sorry, this is terrible).

Her ex-husband, the father of her children is charged with her murder. :(

As mentioned earlier, the pic posted looks like one where someone documents injuries in a domestic case.
I wonder if there was a history of abuse (i would bet on it probably)

Thank you. I was still on page 2. I have just gotten to page 4 and see the horrific news. Just horrific. He did this to her AND the boys, not to mention the family and friends.

Prosecutors intend to file charges but have not yet divulged what they will be, noting that they have not yet received the case from the Simi Valley Police Department, which is investigating the case.

Ali, who appears to be a certified teacher who worked in Los Angeles County, is eligible for release on $510,000 bail. He is due in court Tuesday.

Castillo had filed for divorce from Ali in March but the case had not yet been resolved, according to the online court docket.

Police are not releasing details on how they believed she died.

Simi detectives found Castillo's body in a remote area of the Antelope Valley Sunday afternoon, the department said.

Lew declined to elaborate but did say the remote location was "out in the desert." The remains were identified as Castillo's with assistance from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Department. That agency will determine the cause of death.

I am wondering if the husband gave up the location of her remains because she was found so quickly. MOO
It’s certainly possible. Some crimes of passion lead to profound remorse and regret. And this strikes me as a reasonable explanation although we know very little about ZA at the moment. I doubt he volunteered the information but he may have caved with just a bit of pressure.

It’s also possible that when he was interrogated they were able to get him to surrender his unlocked phone. Surely there hasn’t been time yet to get the SW’s needed for phone or vehicle data. The only other alternative would be if someone found her and called 911. But it sounds like the area where the assailant left her body was quite remote. So that’s lower on my list than the other options.

ETA: It pains me to say it but it would also be logical for a few delicate but revealing questions to be asked of the children. :(

All MOO.

The mother of a Simi Valley woman who was found dead is speaking out

Seems she video chatted with suspect and two boys during the weekend and he was acting “very normal” and concerned about Rachel.

"He had my grandchildren, I had texted him to ask how he was doing," she said. "He offered to video chat so I could see the boys. I got to see my grandsons and speak to them and he expressed his concern and I just told him we're doing everything we can ... he said he was very sorry and hoped that she was okay. It seemed like a very normal conversation."

Also the family had a missing person vigil yesterday evening, not yet informed that the body was already located and ex arrested for murder.
gahhhh wolf in sheeps clothing

Exactly. How would someone have gotten her out of the apartment if it was foul play and she was bleeding?

If she left of her own accord, I guess she could have covered up and walked out, but where would she go without her car?? This doesn't make sense.
I wonder if there was blood found outside.

Edited: wow I’m late.

All MOO.
Not according to the SVPD video interview I posted above - she was found using leads developed from within the investigation. Not from a tip and no member of the public found her.

MOO, he didn't say a word to help them find her.

Asked if there had been any previous warning signs about Ali, Christopher Castillo replied: "I would just say that violence has become a part of what is happening in this country, and for whatever reason, I'm not exactly sure why younger people seem to think that violence is acceptable.

"I mean, there's always been murders. There's been husbands who killed their wives since the dawn of time," Castillo said. "But it just seems to be more prevalent in this country. There seems to be less consequences for doing violence. And it's something that really has to stop."

Her father said he was working with the San Bernardino County Department of Children and Family Services to get the children into the custody of his oldest daughter, "who Rachel had indicated that she wanted the children to go to."

Prosecutors filed murder charges Tuesday against the man accused of killing his estranged wife, Simi Valley resident Rachel Castillo, 25.

Hawthorne resident Zarbab Ali, 25, was charged with murder and the special allegation of lying in wait and use of a knife, according to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Castillo's two children were not at home when she was attacked, authorities have said.

"This was a young mother with a very bright future who was working on behalf of a local nonprofit provider while attending graduate school," said Ventura County DA Erik Nasarenko. "Rachel's murder is a tragedy for Ventura County, and my office will be seeking justice for her two young children and entire family."

An arraignment was initially scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Ventura County Superior Court but was postponed until Wednesday.
