Bakersfield homicide suspect wanted in missing baby's disappearance

cache.php

Police began to investigate the disappearance of the boy, Ramon Angel Reyes-Chavez, on Wednesday around 8:40 p.m. During the investigation, detectives developed information leading them to believe that Reyes-Chavez was the victim of a homicide, according to Bakersfield Police Department.
Detectives identified Kaleb Kessinger, 20, as a suspect in this case, and attempted to contact him in the 3400 block of Nighthawk Lane in Northwest Bakersfield, police say. Officers located Kessinger on Wednesday night at about 10:45 p.m. driving his car on Nighthawk Lane, according to police.

Kessinger fled from officers and was involved in a single vehicle traffic collision near Calloway Drive and Olive Drive. 17 News reported heavy police presence at the time of the crash but Bakersfield Police Department could not release any information at the time.
Kessinger was last seen fleeing on foot from that area, police say. Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Kessinger for charges which include homicide and felony child abuse.

There are so many questions right now, how did he get the 2 yr old, was he having a relationship with the child's mother? Just What?

I know, I have the same questions myself. I doubt it was a random killing, but who knows?

Goodness. Another one. What is going on?! I hope they found the little guy so he can at least be laid to rest. Not very much info out there yet. I would imagine he was in a relationship with the little boy’s mother....but who knows.

“BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield police arrested a teenage mother, booking her on a charge of murder for the death of her 2-year-old son, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Ayled Chavez, 19, was arrested just after 5:45 p.m. Thursday and booked on charges of murder, felony child abuse, and conspiracy. The arrest came after investigators found the body of a young boy in the Kern River Canyon.

Police are still searching for Chavez's boyfriend, Kaleb Kessinger, 20, who led police on a vehicle chase Wednesday night before crashing his vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot, according to BPD. Kessinger is also wanted for murder.”

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Ayled Chavez, the mother of the boy whose body was found in the Kern River Canyon has been released from prison exactly one year to the day she was initially arrested.

Chavez was sentenced in December to two years in prison. She was released Friday, April 26, which is also a year to the date of when her 2-year-old child, Ramon Angel Reyes-Chavez, was found in the Kern River Canyon.

In December, she pleaded no contest to willful cruelty of a child. Additional charges including a first degree murder charge and assault of child under 8 resulting in death were both dismissed as part of a plea deal.

The California Department of Corrections said that Chavez completed her sentence and was released to probation supervision on April 26. Chavez served 257 days prior to her sentence and was credited for 256 for good behavior. She began serving her sentence in January.

The District Attorneys Office confirmed to 23ABC News that Chavez's plea deal requires her to testify truthfully in the case against boyfriend Kaleb Kessinger if called by the prosecution.
