Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 20200 block of Rancho Villa Road in Ramona at around 9 p.m. on Monday after learning of an assault that happened in the area, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, deputies said. Despite attempting life-saving measures, the woman was declared dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, the victim was identified by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as Rebecca Marodi, 49, a 30-year firefighting veteran who was stationed in French Valley just north of Temecula.

San Diego County Sheriff’s investigators believe they know who killed 49-year old Cal Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi. They just have to find that person.

She was well liked and respected. So sad.
“She was never afraid to get involved with a person who needed help and she was always willing to extend herself to assist them.”

It's believed it may be a domestic violence case, according to the above links....was she in a relationship, married?
I hope the perpetrator is quickly apprehended.

Well one would hope that she never again sees the light of day.

Locals have heard the police dispatcher mention that she is believed to have fled in a 2013 Chevy equinox. She had a small dog with her. Yolanda's daughter reposted a tribute to Becky on her Facebook, but has since deleted it.

Her previous conviction was of 11 years and served less than two years. She was charged under California PC 192 (A), that is described as voluntary manslaughter during a sudden quarrel in the heat of passion

"Investigators suspect that the victim knew the perpetrator and are treating this case as a potential domestic violence incident," police said.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department on Thursday identified the person they believe to be responsible for stabbing a Cal Fire captain to death in her Ramona home earlier this week.

Yolanda Marodi, 53, also known as Yolanda Olejniczak, is suspected of killing Cal Fire Captain Rebecca "Becky" Marodi, who was found Tuesday night with fatal stab wounds at her home in the 20200 block of Rancho Villa Road.

Olejniczak has not been arrested and her location is not known, the sheriff's department said. Anyone with information on her whereabouts were asked to contact the SDSO's homicide investigators at (858) 285-6330.
...
Court records obtained by NBC 7 show Olejniczak pled guilty in 2003 to voluntary manslaughter from a homicide that occurred in 2000. She was sentenced to 11 years in prison. NBC 7 is working to obtain more information on the case.

“I don’t know who is responsible, but it seems it was personal,” said Victoria Bradley, who knows Marodi’s mother. “I can’t even imagine what she’s going through. It’s just devastating, every parent’s worst nightmare.”

Yes. At the border they do track the license plate number.

That is crazy and sad. Would you get involved with someone who went to prison for stabbing a partner?! Wow.
Well, if—like the deceased captain—you were a good person who tried to look for the best in others, you might be persuaded to believe an explanation from a charismatic narcissist such as, “my husband was physically abusive, I feared for my life, and when he attacked me, I just defended myself,” even if the court that convicted said narcissist apparently didn’t! I suppose there’s also the possibility that the captain was unaware of her partner’s criminal past…but I think that’s unlikely.

Hey, you never know what people will convince themselves of just to feel safe—look at the now-deceased mother who doggedly fought to retain custody of her teenage son after he murdered his own father, in spite of the son and others warning her that this could be a fatally bad decision—turns out they were all right. Olejniczak crossed the border into Mexico the same day imo.
As a side note to that possibility. Mexico requires (or used to require) visas for all US citizens going deeper than 50 miles or so into Mexico.

The need for a visa was sporadically enforced by Mexican military checkpoints. Sometimes enforcement could be active (never had that), other times, the checkpoints were not manned and still other times, Mexican soldiers checked our foreign IDs, but did not truly insist on the visa.

All that side, going much further into Baja California than the tourist hot spot of Ensenada carries the risk of running into a Mexican military checkpoint. This is especially so after Mexico agreed- or was it "agreed"? to send 10,000 soldiers to border areas to prevent illegal immigration and drug smuggling.
