I have goosebumps as I type this. I was at a family gathering earlier. My sister in law was asking about the cases I am researching and my adoption searches, etc... I was about to tell her about Rose and I started out by saying "I don't know if you've ever heard of Synanon..."

She replied with "I know all about Synanon, my friend Anthony went missing from there when we were about 16"

Her parents and Anthony's parents were good friends. Anthony's family moved in with my sis-in-laws family in their San Francisco home for awhile in the 70's. She said he didn't have a drug or alcohol problem. His mother, Joanna, had mental problems and was committed to Napa State Hospital. He and his father, Caesar continued to live with them while his mom was in the state hospital. She said she had no idea what prompted him to enter Synanon. He, alone, went to Synanon and was never seen again. The parents didn't give permission for him to be there.

She couldn't recall the family's surname. She is going to ask her father for more details tonight. I think I should start a thread for Anthony, too.

I believe the judge in Flint is lying through his teeth. It just doesn't make sense for Rose to have been the only person sent to Synanon from the Gennessee County courts.

Is there anyway you can figure out exactly what year this was based on Anthony's age? Hopefully he wasn't one of the Synanon/Peoples Temples switch-a-roos.

I think you should. If they lived in the same household, surely your SIL has a picture of him...

There is no doubt in my mind this all boils down to money (or worse knowing how sick this world can be). The Judge had to have gotten something out of this deal...but what?

SIL is waiting to hear from her dad about Anthony. She said she has no interest in locating him but was surprised when I mentioned Synanon. She did say she'd let me know what she found out if we still wanted to research his whereabouts.

Anyway....I emailed Paul Morantz, the atty that got bit by the snake in his mailbox. I asked for his advice and assistance. This was his reply to my email:


First, it is absolutely true that courts and probation officers referred
youngsters in l973 to Synanon as condition of probation and alternative to
jail. They were put in "punk squads" and often berated, humiliated and
struck. Many ran away and a farmer helped many get home. For this Synanon
attacked the farmer eventually. He has passed away. Maybe he has records.
I am also friendly with a former attorney fior Synanon who might help. I
also have boxes of records on punk squad. I can have it searched by a
college student at $20. hour for her name.

I will also contact former members for info. This all may take a week or
so.

Some others info: Synanon closed in 1991. She is not there. Synanon
first used violence in l974 but it did not escalate to life threatening
violence for a few years. But if a minor was caught trying to escape she
could be beaten privately or publicly. Much worse if she tried to take
something of Synanon's with her.

But in that period I know of no attempted murder by Synanon; and I think if
there was an event with Rose I would have learned of it. 34 years have gone
by. If she ran away at 14 all sorts of things could have happened
that we all know can befall the girl. On the other hand, as her parents
didn't come and get her, she might have drifted off feeling not loved and
made her own life..

You can use this letter with anyone to confirm what I have said about
Synanon. And documents exist to prove everything I say. They were
terrorizing the kids sent by the judicial system. In fact that is how
violence started in Synanon.

You might contact first Oakland police. I could recommend some PI's but
that would not be cheap. Call me, but not tomorrow 310 XXXX if you want
to talk.

If you want me to show your letter to anyone, even former Synanon members
that I trust, send me permission. I could also post my own note on a
Synanon web site for information. There is peace between me and most ex
members

By the way do you have the website for Forum on People"s Temple and Synanon.

Maybe I will talk to you Wednesday or Thursday or next week.

It would be nice if we find good news.

Paul is in the Los Angeles area based on his area code. I think the Synanon Files are at the library in L.A., too. I'm going to call him tomorrow evening. Don't know if there are any members from the L.A. area.

I am in contact with a lady named Karen Elyse White. She's a student of forensic art and she was kind enough to do age progressions of Lori Peugeot for me on another site. She volunteered to do more as she needs the practice while working toward her degree.

Do you all think it would be of any help to have her do an age progression of Rose in her 20s? Or are there any other cases anyone is working on where an age progression would be helpful? If so, PM me.

Did anyone ever contact OK LE on this UID? She was discussed briefly here and then there is nothing more. She is just as good a match as any, and the appendectomy scar is interesting. If you remember, Rose's last letter home she said she had a kidney infection, (or something like that) and she was afraid to go to the doctor. Well, an appendicitis can start out feeling like that. As it gets worse, it is very painful, which could have forced Rose to seek medical attention.

If Rose was heading to Texas to see her mother, (or maybe Pose...depending when he actually moved there) Oklahoma would be right on the way from CA.

I'll call OKLE but I want to make sure it's not already been done. Has this OK UID been ruled out, or was she dismissed as Rose via PM's?

I just thought I would let you know I have published part 2 of Rose's story. I will do a part 3 if there are any further developments in her case. I am working with Isabela to hopefully make some more progress in finding Rose. I am looking for the first 10 pages of her last letter if anyone knows where I can find them. I imagine Isabela will be getting back to me on that soon, but if anyone has a link to them, please pass it on. Perhaps they have gotten lost or something?? The post should help to put into context where the case stands somewhat, although I never included what possible matches have been eliminated. I know there are at least 3 possible matches currently being investigated. One in CA (a different one), NJ, and NY. The family is working to get some nuclear DNA in the voluntary database. As you probably know, there are 3 different databases for DNA. Unidentified, criminal, and voluntary. The family is also working on letters to SS and IRS. These are the things that are not mentioned in the post. This should get you up to speed on some things you may not know. I don't stop by websleuths that often so I don't know if you have any information on possible matches you are working on that you would like to share with me. If so, please stop by HOTT and send me an email or something. Just click on the flaming email on the left on the site and title your letter Rose Cole. Best wishes everyone.

Her blog is HOTT on the trail. I have her email and she's on my google chat list...let me try and get her.

I really liked her. I was going to volunteer for her and dumb me got mixed up on the wrong forum, gave my heart and soul, then got locked out...long story...anyway....I'm not sure she followed the case, but did put it up. I think (remember, bad, bad memory probs here) her, shadow and I were working on something and Rose came up, she posted it.

Anywho....I will try and reach her and see if she would like to help us 'revive't this. Maybe she can repost her blog.

Shadow has a great MySpace page done on rose also, Most of it was taken from what Pias wrote for the HOTT blog.

It's only a hunch, but if Rose is alive, I have a feeling she some how made her way to Texas where her bio-mom lived while alive and her brother Pose eventually went. I found a Rose with the birth date of 12-23-56 in a nearby town of Poses last known address. The last name is different than Cole and no middle name. I can't find any marriage records or birth records etc. I'll keep everyone posted as to any developments. Seems she moved around, and has addresses near Poses on at least 2 moves. According to the last records found, this Rose now lives in a nice 3 bedroom home in Mesquite, TX , but has no family listed living there...
