I don't think I've seen where his backpack was found. I'm curious to know if it was in the vicinity of his car. Also, I'd like to know if it looked like anything might be missing from his backpack.

His backpack is mentioned here

"I know that he's probably gone, but I mean we still have some hope," Johnson said.

Prifogle was last seen on March 4 at the Pine Cove Market. Search teams looked in the area for days but only found his backpack on a nearby, rugged trail.

"I think maybe he put down his backpack and went back to get water and maybe he lost his footing or something," Johnson said.

...enjoyed hiking at night. The evening of Wednesday, March 4, 2020, he set out for Webster Trail, a path that isn’t well-used but that he’d been familiar with since childhood. In the middle of the night, he texted his roommate that he’d be home soon but was heading to the river to get water. That’s the last anyone ever heard from him. [snip] Prifogle’s car was still parked near the trailhead of Webster Trail, and that weekend, a search-and-rescue team found his backpack deep off the trail.

Melissa Lane went missing 3 months after Roy's disappearance. I wonder if LE has spoken with her cousin, who is also Prifogle's friend. I always find it odd when a person is associated with more than one missing person.

Melissa Lane — who helped search for Prifogle last spring because Prifogle was good friends with her cousin... [snip] ...the same cousin said that sometime between June 10 and 15, he drove Lane to Black Mountain Road, where she got out of his truck to go for a hike. She wasn’t carrying a cellphone or backpack.
