I am just wondering why she didn't have a working phone. Even a cheap one from Walmart to have minutes on? Even non working phones can often still contact 911.

I am also curious, why her partner did not reach out when Whisper had not called the other children for 3 days? When my kids were little, I always called them every day if I was not with them. Odd. Because if she was with her family, she would have borrowed a phone from them to contact the other children. And why does she travel that far for a medical appointment for her child? Why doesn't she have a provider closer to her home?

The explanation on why he contacted family three days later is sort of convoluted. That along with the statement from her Mom about how Whisper had to use his phone to call her - could imply control issues - MOO. She also doesn’t have a car.

Truly a mystery, hopefully the family gets answers soon!

Interview with the baby's father.

For the first time, Owen's longtime boyfriend, Robert McCarty, who is the baby’s father, spoke with KCRA 3 about their disappearance.

*****
He has visited Atwater at least four times in the past week to search the area where Owen was last seen.

"I really hope that they are okay and that they're not, you know, hurt or if you know, if they passed that, you know, they didn't have to sit there, you know, dying from exposure, starvation or no water," he said.

*****
The Fresno Police Department is now leading the investigation.

KCRA 3 contacted Fresno Police for an update twice in the last week, but has not heard back.

That’s a really odd statement from the partner. I can’t imagine what I would say in these circumstances if that was my husband and baby missing, but I feel like it wouldn’t be that. JMO

Flier just posted to MissingCases.com:
URL: Whisper Owen Missing Person Flier
The first picture of the car: Why would they make her/the driver unrecognisable? Is there anything or anyone they aren’t ready to share? Is it an older picture with another driver? Isn’t it decent to show (for instance pumping breastmilk)? Is that a habit of police? It looks like her numberplate so no stockphoto of the car…

Or cell phone. I know this can be a financial thing but not likely

Well, not if she took CA-99. But if she went the back way, on the patchwork of county roads, yes.
And even on back roads a car would not go unnoticed for more than a day or so. I’m not as familiar with the back roads outside of merced county.

Maybe the article has been edited, or maybe I skimmed too fast, but I don't see anything indicating that? It says they're frustrated, but I didn't see that they think it's because of her past.
The article only speaks on her family saying they are unhappy with the lack of police effort, for the implication on why that is; the rest is on social media but I can't say what it is due to the rules. It's pretty obvious if you've followed true crime/missing person cases a lot :'(

Unfortunately, there are cases where a car accident goes unnoticed for years. Seems that is more likely in a body of water, but going down a ditch happens too.

Yikes, I agreed that this is odd at best. Why is he talking about the baby in the past tense? Why are we getting a first interview with him 2 weeks in? His demeanor and words are in significant contrast to how her brother and mother are coming across, also.

Based on her brother's FB updates and replies, it seems the police have shared additional footage taken in Atwater with the family but not with the media, and that on the footage Whisper is seen pulling over to change the baby and then continuing to drive.

Maybe the longtime boyfriend is just a very stoic individual. The horrible scenerios he runs through, his thoughts on possibilities immediately coming out of his mouth without any filter? Odd, yes but could have been heavily edited l.

Yes, maybe. But that reference to the baby in the past tense ("she WAS such a good baby and she hardly ever CRIED") is really giving me pause.

I hear you, just trying to see another POV. I felt there was a chance he was very controlling.

Time will tell.

I just got here, and I apologize for not taking time to catch up.
Did anyone wonder if she crossed paths with ICE or Border Patrol?
I also am concerned about the possibility someone found the baby adorable and decided to take her, maybe harm the mother?
Another possibility is someone attacking the mother. All kinds of nuts around these days.
I suppose people checked out the young mother's partner...

so many possibilities.
No sign of the vehicle?

I did know that, but they don’t record.
They may not record, but somewhere if they are downloaded might. You may be on to something. Explore the possibilities.

Kind of seems like the cops thinks she is missing by choice since they don’t appear overly concerned and there’s a baby involved. I don’t see her plastered on my tv each day and I’m in So Cal. I saw from her Facebook she was in recovery. Hopefully she didn’t relapse.

If that were the case, thousands of crimes in California could be solved. Let me know if you find something different for CalTrans highway cams.

The desperate mother of a missing California woman who vanished with her eight-month-old baby more than two weeks ago has accused cops of 'profiling my family' and refusing to put much effort into the search.

*****
Speaking from her home in Fresno, Torres noted that Whisper – along with the rest of the family – has criminal priors and said, as a result, she thinks the police aren't taking the disappearance seriously.

She said: 'I feel like the cops are profiling my family. We all have records, so they think we are all ex-cons and druggies.

'But what about Sandra? She is a baby and the definition of innocence but they're being so casual about it.'

*****
But, said a furious Torres, the Sacramento Sheriff's Department worked on the case for a day before deciding that Whisper had gone on the lam due to an outstanding warrant issued six months ago.

That theory cut no ice with the 58-year-old who told the Daily Mail that Whisper was aware of the warrant – which arose over a neglect conviction after one of her children got Covid-19 in 2021 – and had tried to hand herself in to the Sacramento County Jail, only to be sent home due to high blood pressure.

She told the Daily Mail: 'Because the active warrant is there, they're saying she doesn't want to be found. She's running.

Kinda lines up to what I said above. Hope she’s ok. Baby too.
