Thanks for refreshing that info and detailing it better for us @Knox. I'd briefly referenced that case with the "Failure to Complete" and "Commitment Warrant" in my August 3 post. But, according to the Superior Court records at Search By Name - Criminal
that particular case has been disposed, which means it is considered closed as the matter was resolved to satisfaction of the court. A screenshot of the case overview is attached from the link.

Was that "disposed" an error on the part of the court clerk in updating the database, or is it possible Whisper and her Mom were unaware it was disposed?

She left Elk Grove at 4 AM. It was dark then. Did she take back roads on the way to Fresno, too? I can't imagine being that fearful of getting pulled over on a well-traveled road, but people do some strange things. I personally would not want to make a long road trip with an 8-month-old any longer than necessary, but that's me. JMHO.

She had a missing headlight. That is a reason to be pulled over, imo. Why not fix the headline instead of driving in fear is beyond me. If she only drove during the day, I guess, it wouldn't be an issue.

Of course, that might not even have been a consideration in her decisions. I'm assuming it is, but that's not a fact.

Good point! The only time I've been pulled over in Chicago was for a headlight that was out. I was only a couple blocks from home and it was not fully dark so no ticket, just a warning to get it fixed before driving at night again

Money. No money to get headlight replaced. No money to pay bail for warrant.

It just keeps spinning. The cycle of poverty. It is an ongoing hamster wheel that some people get on, and can't seem to get ahead.

Thanks for reading my typo - I wrote "headline" but meant "headlight," as you figured out.

Thanks for the correction. I do think, however, she deliberately kept off the major roadway and took less-monitored roads to avoid being pulled over.
Do you think this because you believe she had a warrant or why?

Yes, it would great to know her route in the AM. If she also went a route on back roads that might some theory about why she did so in the PM.

The answer about why she persisted in seeing a doctor so far away from her home might also be entagled in why she was she driving to places that don't make sense knowing what we know. IMO

The length of time that it took her to get places on the way home plus her being so far off of her route home makes me wonder if she was carjacked. I've traveled a number of times with a baby in the car. We always took enough supplies and some extra in case the car broke down, held up by road construction, illness, etc. This doesn't make any sense unless something serious or someone interfered with her trip.

I was wondering if these things are connected too. If her mother’s statement about the open warrant having a connection to medical care for one of the children is accurate (or Whisper thought so), then maybe this is the reason she brought the baby to an out-of-town doctor. Maybe she has a serious mistrust of most doctors but feels comfortable with this one? Maybe if there was a case involving one of the children she didn’t have a choice about what doctor to see?

Because otherwise, money was obviously tight. That’s a lot of gas and time to spend on a doctor visit.

I was also thinking about why else she might have traveled the Escalon route. Maybe she was meeting someone to buy something? Either something she didn’t want her mom to know about or something that didn’t seem worth mentioning. I have gone out of my way to pick up a really good deal from FB marketplace, for example. This would seem to be a lot harder to do without a phone, but she does have a relatively active FB account.

I don't know of any back roads that run from "east of Escalon" to Elk Grove, but I am not super familiar with that part of CA. What I am very familiar with is the price of gas in this state, and if Whisper was on a tight budget, she wouldn't be wasting a drop of it. And if she was deeply concerned about that broken headlight, she could have cut her family visits short and easily made it home before dark. So I am thinking that maybe her intention was not to go home. If that's true, where was she going? JMHO

Is 4.5 hours needed for that trip in the am?

No, according to Google Maps, the trip from Elk Grove to Fresno starting at 4 AM should take from 2 hours, 10 minutes to 3 hours. The return trip from Fresno to Elk Grove starting at 5 PM should take from 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours.

I sure don't disagree with you. I thought very carefully before even driving out to westside to get an ice maker. Just because of gas and wear and tear.
I do wish she had a phone, with the drive and the baby.

The vehicle wasn’t Whispers, it was her SO’s Dad’s. She evidently had no car of her own.

KCRA 3 Investigates confirmed with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office that Owen has an outstanding warrant tied to a 2020 child abuse case.

The District Attorney's office said Owen pleaded no contest to felony child abuse in 2021 and was ordered to complete a work project, which she never did, leading to the issuance of the warrant.

What if she took a different route? One suggested option makes it 3-4 hours instead, and she may have had to make stops to feed/clean Sandra? Whisper also didn't have a phone and possibly no car gps, would she know to take a faster option?

If she did make a detour, why? Visiting friends? Shopping? no intention of speaking ill about her but maybe visited a lover, drug dealer, etc?

What is a work project? Is it a parenting program or course? I tried googling and couldn't find an answer

That is the warrant both you and I found, but the case is showing as "Disposed" (closed) in the Superior Court Records. Likely an oversight on the County Clerk's part, it was likely reponed when she didn't complete the "project" and the warrant was issued but the court record was not so annotated.

Thanks!
