Found Deceased CA - Sandy Giles, 44, Earp, 13 May 2017

  • #221
Yes but 800 yards down the road. The roads were scraped a few days after the car was found and that may have covered her up. So sad. My heart goes out to her loved ones.

I'm pretty sure it was only 800 feet. So...about 267 yards. Man. How sad.

"According to Sandy Giles’s daughter Kendall, the body was found just 10 feet from the side of Highway 62 only 800 feet from where Sandy’s car was discovered last May."

And a little more info: "The body was found toward Parker from the location her car was discovered, indicating that she may have been walking toward the town of Parker. She had called family members earlier asking if they could send her money for fuel."

Oh, how heartbreaking.

I wonder if she was hit by a car I wonder??? Such a strange and sad ending.

Only 10 ft off the roadway where her car was found. How sad she wasn't found sooner. RIP Sandy.

Omg, that's insane! Did LE even look for her at all???

Sorry, but please explain to the Brit. What does scraping the road mean?

That sounds as though she didn't make it into Parker since if she had sher phone would surely have connected to a phone tower there. Also I'd have expected her to call in at the nearest gas station since petrol was what she needed, and if she had then surely whoever was behind the desk would have remembered her.

No, I suspect whatever happened to her happened not long after she set off from her car walking towards Parker. The only real question for me is whether she was hit by a vehicle or collapsed and died due to respiratory problems or maybe a heart attack brought on by the stress of the day. Given how close she was to her car I'm assuming she was not killed by a motorist who stopped and took his chance.

I've not been able to work out from Google satellite view exactly where her car was left, but it sounds as though she's been lying very close to the Earp post office or the Oasis minimart all these months.

I read that they wouldn't be able to find the cause of death due to being skelontized. However, isn't it possible to test hair and fingernails? I don't know anything about it but with today's technology....

They haven't said what condition the remains are in other than that they are "decomposed". Given that they were in the desert, even slightly covered, through the summer they may be mummified. In any event, it would be obvious, from whatever remains, if she had been hit by a vehicle, or if she had suffered an assault there might be evidence of blunt force injuries to the head or of manual strangulation.

She was barefoot. They found her flip flops away from the car. She would not attempt to walk on the hot sand and roads barefoot. Maybe she changed into other shoes before attempting a walk to Parker?

This is so sad. Why was there never a search for her? Just the family coming out and looking at the surrounding area? Where was the police search? Dayum!

RIP Sandy. How tragic this is. My heart goes out to her family.

I feel so awful that she was so close and wasn't found for so long. I swear this seems to be becoming a thing.

On the FB page for her which is now named "In Loving Memory of Sandy Giles" a post by admin, in which the poster calls Sandy her momma, she "the body was decomposed into only a skeleton but the signs that it is Momma include bleach blonde hair that was still there, dentures, her cigarette case, and keys."

So heartbreaking.

Thanks for the clarification. As I'm not on Facebook I never think to look at it

Yes, there was a search for her but only about 6 people showed. By then she'd been covered over by the sand.

And I believe it was on ParkerLive where one of the posters asked about the scraping of the sand.

I'm still trying to understand what this means. I'm guessing that it's scraping wind-blown sand off the surfaced road and dumping it along the sides, as might be done with snow.

Can someone please clarify?

I've never heard of it myself, it that would be my guess, too. It's desert out there and winds blow sand onto the road, so I figure they have a machine just like a snow plow that comes along and clears the sand off the road so you can see it and the dividing line.

Yes, dirt or sand has washed or blown onto the asphalt part of the road so they do like a snow plow and scrape it back off.

Although I don’t live there and it’s hard for me to imagine that much dirt/sand blowing into the road that it would cover a body when scraped. I know when it snows that it’s a pretty big pile but I’ve never heard of dirt/sand being that much.

And...it shocks me the plowed didn’t see her body. I am rural with grass and weeds growing on the sides of the highway and I can easily see a deer carcass off the side of the highway. It’s heartbreaking they didn’t see her [emoji22]
