Couple missing following horrific accident in the US

Shalvinesh and Roselyn Sharma are the owners and operators of Justin’s Towing of Sacramento. Their family is now seeking answers about the two.

The California Highway Patrol says a big rig crashed into the tow truck, propelling it over the bridge’s guardrail and into the Sacramento River. The bridge is about 100 feet above the river.

Family members believe the married couple was in the tow truck when it fell into the river.

Search crews located the tow truck about 30 feet under the water on Tuesday night, but had to call off recovery efforts because water conditions were too dangerous.

Donald Singh, Roselyn Sharma’s brother, says he fears the worst.

The GPS on the couple’s tow truck showed they were driving west on Highway 50, towards Pioneer Bridge at the time of the crash.

"Help for the recovery mission has been delayed because the Sacramento River is running too fast on Wednesday for divers to go in the water.

Family fears couple was in tow truck that fell into Sacramento River
"River flows are currently estimated to be between 5 and 6 knots; the fast currents allowable in in public safety diving are between 1 and 3 knots," the Sacramento Drowning Accident Rescue Team said in a statement to KCRA.

Finding the exact location of the tow truck is challenging in the swift water, so the Sacramento County sheriff's marine unit has been asked to help.

"One of our boats is equipped with a size-scan sonar unit, and that allows us to scan the water in different ways and get a different angle on maybe an object in the water," Sgt. Shaun Hampton said.

In the meantime, it's an agonizing wait for family members hoping that Shalvinesh and Roselyn somehow survived the crash.

"Are they alive or not? We just want to know that because their kids are waiting," said Usman Batcha, the brother-in-law of Shalvinesh."

Correctly described in the article for sure.... Horrific! I cannot imagine having 100 feet to know what it about to happen.

Prayers for this couple and their families and friends. Very dangerous job, how awful . They are very brave to work out there on the roads in terrible conditions with distracted and speeding drivers buzzing by while they work to help disabled vehicles get off the roadway. Admire them very much, so very sad it took their lives .

Yikes! I passed this spot last night and wondered what the slow down was about. That’s quite the distance to fall. My worst nightmare. Hopefully they find them soon.

This is a story of nightmares. Those poor people, through no fault of their own.

Employees from Justin’s Towing have not found any sign of their bosses, Shalvin and Roselyn Sharma. The husband and wife tow truck team has been missing since Tuesday night.

"This is the last known spot for the GPS that was binging is off this bridge," said Emilio, a Justin's Towing driver.

It's the same spot where a tow truck and a semitruck crashed on the Pioneer Bridge, sending the tow truck over the bridge’s guard rail and into the river.

"It’s emotional, it’s emotional because they’re really good people," Emilio told FOX40. "They have a big heart. They’ll help anybody, you know. They might be in this river."

Officials Believe They Have Located The Tow Truck That Crashed Into The Sacramento River

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Officials believe they have located the tow truck that crashed off Pioneer Memorial Bridge into the river last Tuesday. There is no word on the couple who are presumed to be inside.

Police say they believe the truck is halfway across the river and about 39 feet down. The next step for crews is to figure out exactly how they will get the barge in with a crane to recover the truck. Officials say there are two major PG&E pipelines in the water and weather conditions will make the recovery increasingly difficult.
