Do you believe, then, that LE does indeed know whether it was random vs targeted, they just don't want to say?

Yes. I think they at least have a solid theory on which it is. IMO, it is similar to them listing SP as "voluntarily missing" when they later had to come out and say they didn't really know if she was abducted or voluntarily missing but at the same time they said she was possibly endangered. All the while the family is saying she was abducted. IMO the sheriff may have thought she was abducted all along but did not want to say that and then face public backlash if it turned out he was wrong. It would lead to all kinds of panic if they said they thought SP was abducted (I'm talking back before she was found) and they did not have enough solid evidence like her blood or a ransom note or something. So LE played it safe and said they were "keeping an open mind" and following all leads. I see this refusal to declare a motive as similar. I think they have a good idea/working theory but they are not going to say what that is publicly unless the perps are caught. Why would the Sheriff propose a motive and risk being wrong about it? Plus, if he gave a motive it would reveal a lot about the investigation and lead to more questions he probably doesn't want to answer. He is protecting the investigation, IMO.

Would LE investigate the identity of the anonymous donor? Seems prudent. It's absolutely related to the case, even if just to rule out. Would it be fair to say that LE already is aware of the donor or lack therof, and is playing their cards close to the vest on this as well? Where's the FBI? Would they have discussed the Sheriff's interview on 20/20 and reviewed what should/should not be said? What direction they wanted him to go? Or are they letting this unfold with no interference?

I do think the FBI has likely investigated CG as soon as he became part of this case...especially with his claims of military security training, etc. So if he's not on the up and up, we'll know. They won't let that slide by.

Yeah, in the context of this case, I found that Gamble tip (posted 5 years ago) interesting as well.

According to the woman who stepped forward, she knew of CG because he gave a presentation at their church. He taught missionaries how to stay safe in foreign countries. And he apparently was familiar with negotiating ransoms for their release.

So this woman, who was a friend of the Papini family, thought it might be useful to introduce CG to them.

That's what I understand, but might be wrong...?

Was it the same female friend that first started the gofundme account before it was transferred to KP's name?

So..... I finally just watched the 20/20. I do have a few thoughts - new and old....

I believe KP is sincere and not involved. But it bothered me A LOT that he never once said Sherri's name. Just referred to her as "my wife." The whole interview.

It bothers me that he did the "find my phone" app before actually attempting to CALL Sherri. And that he called his mother to find out if Sherri had been in touch. That's weird to me.

It bothers me that the family (KP) assumed abduction before anything else. I think there must be a reason for that.

It bothered me that he told the babies that "he" found Sherri.

It was implied that the women who abducted Sherri duped her into approaching their vehicle. But I sincerely doubt she would have done so if their faces were covered. Was this the only time Sherri saw their faces?

All the family photos and photos of SP and KP. Seems like overkill to me.

CG is creepy AF. There is more there, IMO.

I still wonder why Sherri was abducted. Why she was harmed? Why was she was released? WHY???

I pray for Sherri's recovery and for the perps to be caught and prosecuted ASAP.

My understanding is that Lisa Jeter, close friend of Sherri's for whom Sherri used to babysit, brought Cameron Gamble into the case.

During the 20/20 episode last night, Keith Papini said that he has absolutely no idea as to the identity of the donor.

It is then explained by the narrator that the anonymous donor contacted Keith (a letter appears quickly on the screen) and directed Keith to get in touch with Cameron Gamble. That bit starts at the 17 minute mark in video below.

So that brings up the question, what FB efforts were they engaging in, particularly CG before he was engaged by anyone? It would have had to be immediately given the tight timeframe between the evening of 11/2 and the TV station receiving the ransom offer on 11/6. Also it seems a bit creepy where if LJ is such a good family friend, why wouldn't she go to KP directly instead of having this anonymous person contact them to say to go to CG. Actually it sounds downright circular where CG before he got hired, did something on FB that got him hired so that KP could then go and hire him, which it's neither clear the work he was doing for SP before anyone hired him nor who exactly hired him.

Also, who posts in their bio they "cooperate with law enforcement, when possible"? [emphasis mine} It's little wonder now why the Sheriff was so adamantly against his involvement.

Oh my! I completely forgot that the letter was received by the press so early! Are you certain of the date? LE hadn't cleared KP yet, and they hadn't called off the searches yet, do how the heck would an anonymous donor know to step in?

So Gamble, in the second "reverse ransom" refers to the kidnappers as "individuals" well before it was known to be more than one person. He also makes a point of saying that the anonymous donor has left the area. Why? They are anonymous, why does that matter?

As for the sheriff withholding details, sure, I know it's done routinely. But he is holding everything back, including the method of abduction, which is definitely in the public interest. All the interviews and camera time seems a waste when a "no comment" press release would suffice. Maybe he's on the verge of an arrest, maybe he is nowhere. We'll see.

I'm reading everyone's posts, but mostly only here at this point awaiting apprehension of these beasts, and subsequent justice for Sherri. The tedious mountain of details are secondary to me now. But I am interested in what everyone thinks about the motive ... if you believe Sherri knows why this happened, why would she want it kept secret? Thoughts, please.

She's so lucky to be alive, SP... I do not understand why there is no speculation of motive from MSM jmo And LE seems so disconnected somehow...jmo Are there any other crimes where both LE and MSM acted like this ? Any crimes where the public has been misled about the crime itself and the perp's motives ?

I am at a loss for words on this one.

LE seems like they are handling a basic break-in or something, Imo. Yes, there is a reward but based on such sketchy info, doubtful as to it being a factor. I know Redding is said to be a crime-infested place, but this crime seems a bit out of the norm for any place in the U.S. Yet they almost downplay it at every turn and Imo, do not want to reveal how this could happen. Physically happen, I mean, in as what did the perps do to get Sherry close enough to abduct her? Did they scream for help? Throw something? Call out to her? What?? WHY is this so top secret?

I do buy that they aren't saying because they don't want to "tip off the perps" as the perps already know how they did it and would assume SP does too. Why doesn't the public of the area deserve or need to know?
