"We are a very private family [who] do not use social media outlets prior to this grotesque tragedy."

Is it just me or does the bolded comment above seem a bit strange?

Yes, and i'm not social media savvy at all, REALLY - but aren't pinterest and creating a site to publish personal photographs for the general public to view and details about your upcoming wedding forms of social media?

Like I said, not social media savvy, so just ignore if this isn't correct.

I've got a question for everyone-

What would this case look like if SP's phone hadn't been left behind?

Would it have made national news?

Would she have shown up or been dropped off 22 days later?
If Sherri's phone hadn't been left behind LE would have been even more after KP like a dog with a bone (if that is even possible considering what usually happens when a wife goes missing).

It would have made national news because of appearance. Just like it did in the first place. It didn't make national news simply because a wife went missing allegedly abducted.

She would have turned up Thanksgiving morning, regardless.

That is, whether her phone had been found or not would have to effect on what transpired as the days went on. That said, what I believe did have an effect was who it was that found the phone. I don't think it was expected (in the plan) that KP would be the one to find the phone. Thus, this did have an effect with regard to how things played out in the days after and leading up to her reappearance.

Maybe she wrapped it in a Christmas package for KP!

Yep.
Call a few ER's...
Drive her jogging route. See if she fell.
MOO

Call relative to see if they were out, hoping to be home before he was?
Call a friend of hers, maybe impromptu plans and she forgot to call or leave note?

To me, to almost immediately call "find my phone" after phone wasnt answered is a bit much, but maybe its the techie in him? Maybe the dramatic in him.

I have trouble with the extreme attachment so many have to their cell phones anyway, so might be seeing this all sideways, lol

I don't understand KP bypassing LE and going with CG to put up money for the safe return of SP. Why did he think she was still alive by the time the CG person came around? LE was not happy with KP. I don't think they are happy with SP. I understand a person would need funds to search for a missing loved one as they are not able to work during that time, but they played on people's sympathy that SP was missing and endangered to collect funds and that is not right if SP was doing something that she didn't want folks to know about even if it went awry. That would put a different spin on the entire scenario. The money would need to be returned and the public would be owed an apology.
CG enters the scene a day or two prior to November 6th - which is 4 days after Sherri goes missing. November 6th is the date that the first letter was sent. That letter does not get published. In actuality, it likely went straight to LE shortly after it was read by the recipient.

I use hose clamps a lot at work and occasionally at home and use a cordless drill because I don't have the patience to tighten them with a screwdriver on non-moving objects, I also cannot imagine attempting it on a non-cooperative person. Maybe the gun was enough to get her to cooperate, but the time it would take doesn't seem worth it. Zip-ties would be faster, but I certainly wouldn't leave my captive alone with them on for any period of time.

I think her kidnappers or whoever were broke and used what they had around the house. They were probably trying to save money to pay for the increased water bill for the month.

I'm curious if the hose clamps looked new or old and dirty.

Letter?

Yes. A letter was sent to the media - I believe the Redding Record Searchlight. This letter announced the anonymous donor and all the other things. Almost two weeks later a slightly changed version of the letter appeared on a web site and then was published in the media once media was pointed at it. I believe that second letter came out over a week later. The first letter wasn't known about until after the second letter came out.

Did he really use Find my iPhone or was it Find Friends? My husband, oldest daughter and I all share location with each other in the Find Friends app. I will occasionally use it to see where my husband is because he doesn’t read or send texts while driving. I can see if he’s 5 or 30 minutes from home. If either of them were not answering calls, I’d absolutely use that because it’s nothing more than opening an app. I don’t entirely understand how Find my iPhone works but I know it’s more in depth than the Find Friends app and I do believe you have to be at the computer with iTunes open.

I can see the attention getting thing. Maybe she was talking to more than one man over the internet. Maybe she wasn't getting the attention that she wanted in her marriage and that's why or how this whole thing started. Everyone likes a little flattery now and then but if you are in a happy, secure marriage, I wouldn't think that she would have been looking to meet other men.

High maintenance (maybe both of them?) is what comes to mind. I'm obviously speculating, (being on the outside looking in) with limited info on personalities and specific situations, but maybe her handsome prince and super mom life didn't end up all she'd hoped for?

Her sister was getting ready to have a baby (wasn't she?), and I'm sure was receiving special attention. The green eyed monster makes people do crazy things sometimes.

Its 100 k plus 50k. And I don't think it's enough to turn in your mother. But it's certainly a lot of money for most people in America.

Regardless, it all plays into the narrative of the nasty illegals abducting cute, white soccer moms off the street and the "ministry" of this guy from this major, controversial church that's taken over the city, being the one to crack the case and rescue her, by appealing to the greed and poverty of the "illegals" families or associates.

It is a big coincidence that she was released on the day after the reward was issued.

What he doesn't understand is that undocumented persons would be terrified to come forward to claim a reward or to have any kind of dealings with law enforcement at all.

Also remember, they rewrote the letter at least once and possibly twice with "updated" requests and offers. However, for some reason, the Spanish language version of the letter was NEVER changed.

Oopsie.

I've always read that it was Find my iPhone. I can use Find my iPhone from my iPhone, iPad or Macbook. I don't need to be at my computer.

Why not? I'd agree to be deported for $150K. Those who want to collect it would find a way.

I own a business in USA that pays good amounts of Federal taxes and brings internationl money to USA, and I had to spend days in Embassy queues to get my visa to enter your beautiful country (I am European). I never understood what Americans' love is with illegals. But it pisses me to no end considering the amount of time I spend to be there legally.

I just don't understand why this is still being discussed. Thankfully, the formerly missing woman is home with her family.

There's been no arrest.

The public may be in danger.

Heck, no known motive, SP and/or her family may be in danger.

Or not.

I can't tell the difference. It had been over a month by then though.

Interesting that KP is SP's orator. What is going through his mind? Was this abduction staged to do this for money and yet a year later they are still in the limelight? (not their idea but hopefully some stage the case will go cold) Did SP really run away and KP had no idea what she went through? Were KP and SP on the rocks and SP wanted to make him realise how much she meant to him? (lame I know)

Where was she hiding out? That is the ten billion dollar question? Where could she go to be completely cut off from the world? Has anyone got any ideas from previous cases where people have gone to escape their circumstances. The podcast suggested Jennifer Wilbanks took a greyhound to NM. What if SP deliberately hitched a ride out of town? We have no idea if any of her clothes were missing --- and what items she could have bought or swapped with her online sales store.....

Jaycee Dugard and ESmart knew their life depended on getting a good description of their surroundings and being aware of things around them - SP apparently has strong survival instincts - so why so cagey?
To a storage facility unit set up beforehand. That's a possibility.
