Like I said in my post above, it's not illegal for an adult to take off and disappear from their own life. It is illegal to lie about it if/when questioned by police. We don't know yet if she lied to police or not.

And to Caligirl: "Faking" one's disappearance is kind of a misnomer. She did disappear, she was gone for 3 weeks. Again, it's not illegal to leave a phone behind or anything else, and take off. She didn't write a note that said, "help I've been abducted." Under the law, disappearing for whatever reason is not a crime.

I think I understood it to mean that if she was kidnapped for real, that is a crime, and if she wasn't kidnapped at all and left on her own, she would be lying about the abductors to LE, so that is a crime,I believe, so yes, I agree, a crime happened no matter how you slice it...

At this point a crime has been committed no matter what.

I think everyone here is thankful Sherri is alive and with her family regardless of what happened. Time will tell if we have other emotions in addition to those.

The Gofundme page was apparently set up by someone other than the husband but it was changed to his name more recently. I have the name via the Internet wayback machine. Don't know if it's relevant, but it's certainly interesting.

I agree with you, that leaving personal belongings behind is not a crime. But leaving them along the side of the road to make it look like an abduction and then coming back with a fabricated story, would be a crime. (mostly the story, but I believe faking an abduction is illegal as well) Regardless I am glad she is home safe and that her children still have their mother.

She may not get charged for a crime if a different story eventually comes out (that she did leave willingly). Or she may. Just depends. It's not an always. Especially if there is mental illness involved.

And if she was abducted, then there are 2 (and possibly more) people who really need to be caught quickly.

Where one leaves their personal belongings (like alongside a road) is not a crime (outside of maybe littering). If someone else makes an assumption that a crime occurred when it did not, and calls the police, it's not a crime on the person who disappeared. Lying to police directly through their own words would be considered a crime. Causing others worry and concern is not a crime (though my mother would disagree with that.).

I want to say first that I completely agree with her your post but could she be charged with child abandonment or something?

I don't see how. The children were in school with adult supervision. Their father then picked them up. The children were not "abandoned" and left to fend for themselves for housing/food/safety.

I keep harping on the law because it's the laws that will determine what happens in this case, or any case where an adult goes missing. Need to refer to the laws of the state.

I'm calling BS on 2 Hispanic women being involved. I'm still thinking she left on her own and is making it look like an abduction.

The only other thought is maybe men abducted her and the women knew of the abduction and felt compassion and let her go.

Well, if it ends up that she faked her abduction, she would likely be responsible for any cost incurred by LE, etc. to help locate her.

Well, it's about time. I expected her to return Tuesday, or at the latest, Wednesday. I figured she'd cave and have to see her children before the holidays. On the day is cutting it close though.
