It does bother me but the media knew it had a black hood and didnt have the actual photo of the Jetta so they did the best they could to replicate it.

IMO

They are suggesting they already had the car when they described it and showed a stock photo of a "mid-90s Jetta". If they HAD the actual car, there must be a reason they showed a similar car but not the car.

But then why show it 24 hours later? I don't get it.

Who provided the original stock photo? Cardoza's office or the media? My guess is there is something on the actual car, some detail, that led them to hesitate on whether or not to provide the actual photo...like the mismatched rims...then got enough information afterward by providing the stock photo that they no longer felt the need to keep the actual details of the car to themselves. Did I make any sense whatsoever??? I'm confusing myself.

snipped from : http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/05/0...o-disappearance-california-girl-sierra-lamar/

Authorities have found a red Volkswagen Jetta with a distinctive black hood that surveillance video links to the disappearance of 15-year-old California girl Sierra LaMar.

No other details regarding where or how the car was found, or who owns, it were immediately available, as the search for LaMar continues two months after she vanished.

Still catching up here ... but I see that LE has this vehicle in their possession ...

JMO, but once this vehicle is "processed", they will know IF Sierra was in this vehicle -- OR -- if she was NOT in this vehicle ...

I sure hope they release whether or not she was in that vehicle so that the investigation can move on ...

:moo:

Perhaps rather than ending up having the public pursue a lead that might not pan out, they waited UNTIL the lab results came back. The statement that it was MORE than a coincidence supports the theory that they DID find her hair or dna in the car, and waited for the test results to come back before asking the public to come forward, which they did in a manner that would suggest to the perp (if he was watching) that they were still looking for the car, and therefore weeks behind him. Suddenly they produce the car, and say they have had it a while, and he's probably FREAKING OUT in a big way. Now he will do something spontaneous and careless and they'll have him. If Sierra is not where he is, he may not go get her (OR harm her) in his hurry to beat feet out of town. He knows they KNOW who he is (or will imminently) and there's nothing to be gained by killing a witness.

But sadly there probably isn't much lost in killing a witness either...isn't kidnapping considered a potential life in prison crime anyway? JMO
Also, a live witness could also tell what else he might have done to her, adding more and more charges...

I agree. I think they wanted people to call in if they have seen this type of car in the entire month of March and when- where. The actual car is very unique with the rims it has on it and it also has the sunroof.

I really think they got many tips on this car and actual sightings but they need all the people to come forth so they now have shown the photo of the actual car with its identifying markers.

It probably helped weed out red cars from this car. If they got call ins on the car LE could have asked them to describe the vehicle and if they didnt mention the unique rims/wheels on the back or the sunroof they knew it wasnt the car in question.

Yes, it can get the perp LWOP.

Whoever took her is in deep do even if he hasnt murdered her and that makes me worry for Sierra's safety and the fact that no one has heard or seen Sierra since March 16th. That is a very long time and this person has to know the FBI is involved and its a high profile case.

ok things are stirring in my brain. i am not sure exactly what day it was, and if I searched back through the threads I can probably find it.....anyway it was back in or around the beginning of April I believe that the investigators said they found new evidence, but wouldn't say what (my guess is the car?) but in the same time frame we were waiting for a live news conference to begin and someone said that immediately all the investigators raced off, but then nothing was stated as to why...anyone who was a part of the threads during that time have a recollection about what I'm saying????

Then i did some research regarding the comment about the San Benito area being of interest and it appears that on Feb 1, 2012 in Hollister, San Benito there was an attempted abduction with the suspect believed to be an Hispanic male in the age of 20-25. Maybe this is a connection to this case???

Advisory Police Release Surveillance Photos of Attempted Kidnapping Suspect
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – February 6, 2012 – The Hollister Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the suspect in an attempted kidnapping.

On February 1, 2012 at approximately 9:20 pm, the Hollister Police Department received a call of a man with a knife at a laundry mat located on the 200 block of San Benito Street. Police Officers arrived and met with a female victim and one witness. The victim reported a man approached her while she was in the business. He had a large knife and he ordered her to go with him. The woman pleaded with the man not to harm her and told him her husband was on his way to pick her up. The suspect hid the knife and left on foot northbound on San Benito Street.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, 20-25 years old, dark complexion, about 5’ 8”, wearing a black beanie hat with a multi-color band toward the bottom edge of the beanie. He was unshaven and wearing a black hooded jacket, a multi-color scarf around his neck and dark pants.

The attached photos were taken from the surveillance system at the business. The Hollister Police Department would like to ask if anyone sees a man matching the description to call 911. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact Officer Matt Weiss at 636-4330.Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may result in an award of up to $1,000.

If Le is still planning water searches, then they are looking for Sierra, IMO. I don't believe divers go down for things like shoes, etc...

I think they will continue to say she is alive until...she isn't, just like Samantha. JMO

Just thinking, Sierra wore red sneakers (see them picture at family website http://findsierralamar.com/ )
and correct me if I'm wrong, her Juicy bag is basically a black one...

The Klaas Act
Recover the Missing, Stop the Trafficking and Punish the Perps!!!

Sierra LaMar: Anatomy of a Search Day 37
For the first time in 47-days the Santa Clara County Sheriff had something new to report. They were looking for, no, wait, they found the 1999 red VW Jetta with a black hood and sun roof that they believe is connected to the abduction of Northern California teenager Sierra LaMar. They haven’t disclosed how long they have had the car, who owns the car, what they found inside the car, or the results of forensic testing that has been conducted on the car. Of course this is a good thing. The Jetta may finally lead us down the path that will result in Sierra’s recovery. However, if you are Sierra’s parents Steve and Marlene or her sister Danielle, things are a bit more complicated than that. Human nature demands that you keep hope alive until proven otherwise. Sierra’s immediate family has been holding onto a thread of hope ever since she disappeared on March 16. They have played out various scenarios, trying to figure out what really happened that cold, wet morning. Inevitably, those scenarios end with one resolution: that Sierra is rescued alive, is reunited with her family, and is able to put her life back together and lead a productive and happy life.

Now, cold reality may be staring in their faces. Perhaps something entirely different went down. Perhaps the end game will be different from that imagined. This creates high anxiety. Not the kind of anxiety you feel when you might not get to the airport on time, or you might not get the promotion that you feel you deserve. No, this is anxiety like my beliefs, dreams, my God and my prayers will supernova if this doesn’t play out the way that I have imagined for these past months. This is anxiety that physically vibrates your body and incessantly pings your brain like a pinball until some truth at long last reveals itself. It invades your fitful sleep, causes your feet to sweat and makes you want to scream at the top of your lungs. But you don’t scream at the top of your lungs: at least not in front of others. It has been a long, difficult slog to this place. The community has been magnificent, the media has been consistent, and the cops are working overtime. But at the end of the day we go home to our families, our apartment, and our life. We eat, sleep and awake renewed. Not Marlene, Steve or Danielle. They aren’t eating right, they haven’t had a full night’s sleep in nearly two months and their consciousness have been dominated by one thought and one thought only: find Sierra!

That is exactly what I am saying. It doesn't make any sense. If he wanted to remain anonymous, he should have just called the tip line. What if the perps saw this video and went to the spot to watch him? Or the police? It would have made more sense if he had already placed the piece of paper, and then posted the video.

He was a mess. He obviously did not gather his thoughts before making the first recording. He came back to add onto his message. He obviously did not stop to write out what he was going to say, and probably never thought about the fact that there could be a flash mob on Bailey at 3 as people come out to see who this guy is! He obviously should have done what you say, and may realize it before he leaves the X, but... He sounded freaked out. And young. Under 24.

After watching the video three times, I think the guy is bogus. He could have submitted anonymous tips to the SO. Putting this on YouTube is way out there, IMHO. That being said, I hope it was sent in to LE for further review. The second video showing the writing could have been photoshopped ("one month ago"), plus the speaker had nothing definite such as day, time, etc. but sure could describe "the two Hispanic guys" who looked like professionals. I hate to think of LE chasing down leads that are thrown out there to put the investigation off track.

I think he also doesn't want to look stupid if he is wrong. But wants to help if he can. He wants LE to go to the places on Bailey they saw the car and see if his note is in the right area. If he is not in a spot LE knows they were, he just got it wrong, and really doesn't want the world to think he's an idiot. If he's right, LE can ask him to come forward and speak with them.

(took me awhile!) he's trying to say that there is a video on YouTube regarding SL's case from a month ago, and that he had posted a comment there.

He also said if you look you can see his comment about the red car made on that video a month ago, WAY before LE mentioned the Jetta

This is all heresy, but one of my neighbors is a police officer around here. He told my husband that after the announcement about a red jetta with black hood was put out there, they received lots of calls in the first two hours. So, if that is correct I don't think they had the car already when putting out the stock photo. JMO!!!

I know my fellow sleuthers are always on top of things so I'm sure you've already seen this. I know LE stated that they don't believe the Walnut Creek attempted abduction was tied in but I saw something today where a flier was being passed out to area residents with a picture of an old man (the attempted abductor) and the red jetta pic, asking for information on the two. I only went back to page 30 but didn't see anything like this. Has this already been covered?

ETA - "the attempted abductor" meaning the Walnut Creek one. Where the guy was stalking the girl at her school.

Keith LaMar, Sierra's cousin, adamantly wrote on twitter that the flyer with the suspected WC perp is a "fake." The family doesn't want the pictured perp and car tied together because it would appear an ID was made in Sierra's case. We don't even know if the 2 cases are related.
