This tweeting/reporting it brutal. Why devote most of the day's tweets to wibbling on about how dull and incomprehensible the technical testimony is? Is there nothing happening in that courtroom that' she's able to understand?

It took me about three minutes of searching to figure our what DNA stutter is, and why it might have bearing on this sample -- and I was feeding my kids at the time.

Argh. Many thanks for keeping us up-to-date, Emi! If only you were Verified account@EMIreport!

Morning!

From my Google Alert this morning:
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/03/08/sierra-lamar-dna-all-the-way/

Sierra LaMar: With no body, DNA is star of the trial
However, near the end of the day, Judge Vanessa A. Zecher gave the jury an opportunity to submit written questions to Bell. The three jurors who took her up on her offer asked astute technical questions, suggesting that at least they understood the testimony.

And those questions were.... :gaah:

I see no tweets about the questions either....

Hoping it's a confession AGT made to an inmate!! :)

:waiting: patiently for today's trial! :judge:

Old Steve you may want to add the glove to your list....

http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/03/08/sierra-lamar-dna-all-the-way/

The defense and prosecution also strongly disagreed about how likely it is that Sierra’s DNA was on the cloth glove in Garcia-Torres’ trunk.

The lab concluded it was 340 trillion times more likely that the genetic material on the glove was a mixture of DNA from Sierra, Garcia-Torres and his former girlfriend than from an unknown person and Garcia-Torres and his girlfriend.

The likelihood ratio was calculated based on there being three contributors. But Barlow pointed out that a separate test Bell conducted on the glove indicated there could more contributors, which would reduce the likelihood, though it was not clear by how much.

I agree with scapa!

Trial reporting is not complete with just testimony--many things happen in a courtroom that are seen but not heard. Doesn't make them less important; in some cases the seen but not heard happenings are highly relevant.

How are the jurors handling this boring technical stuff? Are any nodding off, yawning? Are any sitting on the edge of their seat paying close attention?

What about the defendant's demeanor?

Even judges cannot always wear their judicial mask successfully.

I want to know what's happening in this trial! All of it--not just what people say, but what they do, because it all matters.

We get an occasional observance from Damian but imo there has to be a whole lot more to observe than what we are being fed.

Scales retrieved employment file of Garcia-Torres & sister Adriana, who both worked at Safeway, & their Safeway club cards & mother's card
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 14m14 minutes ago
Scales says he's familiar with employee records, Safeway club card records. Garcia-Torres worked at 1 of the Safeways where attack occurred
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 20m20 minutes ago
Context: Antolin Garcia-Torres, accused of killing #SierraLaMar in 2012, also accused of attacking 3 women at Morgan Hill Safeways in 2009

Prosecutor about to go through Safeway club card transaction from March 19, 2009, date of two separate attacks @ Dunne and Tenant Safeways
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 1h1 hour ago
Will be a review of club card of Adriana, suspect's sister. The suspect did not have one at the time but could have used hers for purchases
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 60m60 minutes ago
Scales establishing now some purchases made with Adriana's Safeway club card were paid for by defendant's debit card suggesting he used it
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 55m55 minutes ago
Context: 9 volt Duracell batteries bought with Adriana Club Card day of attacks. In one attack, stun gun used with same battery type inside
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 26m26 minutes ago
More court record context: Stun gun from attacks later examined & Garcia-Torres thumb print found on battery
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 20m20 minutes ago
Adriana previously testified she did not buy the batteries. Records show battery bought 4:20 pm 3/19/2009 using Adriana's club card & cash
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 10m10 minutes ago
Now going into actual club card records of Antolin Garcia-Torres. March 13, 2012, three days before #SierraLaMar vanished.
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 6m6 minutes ago
3 separate transactions that day. One at 11:09 am, one at 11:10 am, but the one the prosecution is interested in happens 11:35 pm
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 4m4 minutes ago
That's when a purchase made with Antolin Garcia-Torres' club card records a purchase of 1.42 gallons of bleach and a turkey baster.
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 3m3 minutes ago
Bought 3 days before #SierraLaMar disappeared. Today Safeway asset protection manager said in court "it seemed like a very unusual purchase"

I hope the jury can clearly see what the evidence is telling them. There is no way all the evidence can be mere coincidence. That doesn't happen. No one person is that unlucky so all things combined coming back to AGT speaks volumes. Just hope the jurors get it.

Now defense attorney Al Lopez cross examining Safeway asset protection manager Jeffrey Scales
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 1h1 hour ago
Lopez now mentioning "go backs." This is when employees restock something on the shelf that somebody returns if it's in good condition
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 1h1 hour ago
Context here, defense has previously tried to explain away Garcia-Torres thumbprint on Safeway attack battery because he did "go backs"
Jenna Lyons‏Verified account@JennaJourno 1h1 hour ago
Defense previously suggested thumbprint could've got on battery prior if it was returned & his print got on it through loose packaging

That would be pretty darn UNLUCKY for him---his print gets on the battery because of 'go backs', AND he coincidentally bought a pack of batteries on the same day that stun gun was used during a robbery outside the store...

Right, what are the odds? What's up with the bleach and turkey baster? I realize what the bleach could be used for, but what about the turkey baster?

'What's up with the bleach and turkey baster? I realize what the bleach could be used for, but what about the turkey baster?'

Delicately put, to clean out orifices with the bleach...

I feel dumb, seems so obvious now that you said it.

The police were always so tight lipped with information, I always held hope that she would be found. When they released that info, I was just horrified. He carefully planned this and intended to leave no witnesses.
