I called my 19 yr old who lives in west LA and left her a message---asking her what was happening around the 16th or 17th that a 15 yr old would want to go to. any raves or concerts etc.

What do we know about other cases in the bay area that are similar to hers? Say going back over the last 5-7 years.

Good question...do we see any similarities. Did anyone just get out of jail/prison in Morgan Hill area...(nearest institution?)?

A student from our school was abducted from college, it was discovered it was by a felon (?) who had just been released from prison.

Just a thought or two.

And the friend didn't respond.

This friend doesn't seem as active on twitter. There is a #findsierra tag going around so I thought she would've posted that, but I also know when something important happens in my life I'm not the first to run to social networking, my accounts will go weeks in touched so that may not be saying anything at all.

I don't get the sense she was joking though. Plus she did say she wasn't going to be in Fremont that weekend, when according to her dad she WAS supposed to, right?

I'm trying to figure out what OF is.

Some people think she is into drugs, gangs, an is essentially into some bad stuff (cussing, ditching, raves, sex etc).

I think much of it is just posturing to look "cool" and "hard". In my opinion, she sounds like she is a little insecure and feels like she doesn't have many friends and tries to act tough so people don't know that she is scared/lonely on the inside.

I have seen very similar postings from my younger brother in laws. It is how young "cool" people talk. My BILs are for sure the cool kids at school and their social pages could be mirror copies (except from a male perspective).

At the heart of it, she seems to come from a reasonably well off family. Her mom has a career, her sis is going to college, they can rent a $$ house. She has nice stuff. A "normal" upper middle class girl, for the most part trying to seem edgy and dangerous. Her mom had rules (phone off at 9, which is more than a lot of parents have) That is why I think a lot of the "hard" stuff we see on her public places is just following the fashion of other kids in her area and class.

JMO in a very long winded way.

The school district can have social networking sites blocked ... but anyone with a phone that has 3G / 4G can use that to get online. Even in a blocked school, it's happening.... LOTS. Many of the phones now can actually OUTPUT wifi ... so friends will let others link into their wifi to use their phones if they don't have data. Above and beyond that, some of the best and smartest hackers in the WORLD are teenagers. My daughter goes to school with a boy that can shut down all the schools internet guards with a few well placed codes... they can surf whatever they want on the library computers ... and then he puts them back up.

Like Sierra most teens are all over twitter, facebook, etc. if they aren't doing it from home... they find a way.

I'm not sure about the iphone / facetime thing. I just had my daughter do it from my ipad , her touch, and her iphone and the images all looked the same ? Maybe she just had another device that wasn't a PHONE per se ?

O/T but..... This info. regarding phones that OUTPUT wifi is news to me.
I learn so much on WS!

She was talking about needing new clothes right around there.
But, I couldn't figure out what it was slang for.
Looked up uban dictionary refs. Still no luck.
And it might have been an acronym for something else.

Possibly drug related. Whether that was true or she just wanted
to seem hip to her tweeties that she had connections in LA.

The LA thing seems like a possiblilty, but I still don't see her throwing out her phone. Turning it off, maybe- but not throwing it away.

I agree. A kid that is really troubled, addicted or deeply depressed is not going to be up and dressed, all clean and smiling into their computer monitor at 7 am sharp each morning.

I know that many kids that age just 'front' by talking tough and posting edgy artsy pictures of seminude people. The picture I saw of that pile of pills she has on her wall--- I saw that on my own DD's wall a couple of years ago. I FREAKED out and she showed it that it was forwarded to her first and she thought it 'looked cool.' And she has NEVER taken pills at all. I cannot say she has never played beer pong or smoked a bit of pot in her young life, but she is not a druggie at all. And her tumbler and FB had some edgy and weird comments before as well. She even had the same comment about 'girls who follow the rules are not remembered ' or something like that. IIRC, it is from CoCo Chanel.

I didn't get the sense she was necessarily doing it to fit in.
Hers were the worst tweet posts.
Nobody else was talking nearly as bad, really.
That's why her's stood out.

If all the others were doing it, too.
I would say yeah, they all do it.

It was almost unbearable to read. I commend whoever persevered to read back last summer!

My son has an iphone and a blackberry. He switches the sim card between them depending on what he wants to use. Is it possible she might have another phone? Would they be able to track the other one if she had another one and switched the sim card out?

Just thinking of some possibilities.

If she ran away, I would hope that after catching wind of the searches, she would call home, or contact someone. :(

What was the context where "OF' was used?

Well it's kind of common for some of the well off kids to be into drugs too, harder ones b/c they can afford it. They don't have to be strung out addicts. I was surpirsed to find out that the "popular" girls who seemed to have it together (and did) were always at raves and doing E. Their parents just didnt know even though they posted about it all the time on FB. I dont think Sierra's parents monitored her social networking either. I don't think she was a tough or "hard" kid, and I don't think she was involved with gangs, but still a partier.

Did her mom say she turned off Sierra's phone at 9pm, or is this an assumption? Only wondering because clearly, she did not monitor her social media as tightly as her phone use, if so...JMO

My DD said that 15 yr old girls LOVE Soulja Boy. He did have a concert scheduled for the 17th in LA.

She doesnt know of any raves that weekend. She said there were probably a lot of underground raves schedule for this last weekend, for St Patricks day.

Soulja Boy Tickets, Los Angeles on 3/17/2012 - orange county ...

Unless she was getting picked up by someone that was going to take her to LA....

So, do you think she was trying to disappear herself?

That just it if she took of . And heard of the searches and worse FBI put yourself in A 15 year olds mind. She is scared of what will happen to her. By either the L/ E or her parents.

Thank you. At 15, Sierra would be able to choose the parent she wanted to live with, imo. So she must have decided to move with her mother and leave her dad's.

IMO

Or, maybe she was partying too much and getting low grades so her mother moved them. MOO

Sarx there was twitter chatter between Sierra and a friend and seeing each other in LA .in on this thread somewhere.it struck me strange how the other person has stop her twittering

I wonder if LA stands for Los Altos? Not sure what the OF store is but was trying to find other cities other than LA she might have been referring to.
