9/11/24 Update: Fifty seconds to a minute. Nearly 115 bullets. That’s how long it took, and what it took, to kill six people & injure another 12 on 4/3/22, during the worst mass shooting incident in Sacramento’s history. A woman shielded her sister [No name given], Johntaya Alexander, with her body amid gunfire & watched a bloody Alexander inhale her last breath. A 12-year-old [Richard Corral] hot dog seller stood feet away from men exchanging gunfire as screams rang out from people running & falling. A homeless woman, described as a sassy and kind spirit, died where she often slept in between businesses on K Street. These details emerged Wednesday during a preliminary hearing in Sacramento Superior Court as attorneys wrapped up their questioning of Sacramento police Detective Shaun McGovern, the lead investigator on the case. Prosecutors also called upon a gang expert [Police Lt. Zach Eaton], with the Sacramento Police Dept. who testified that a single video uploaded on social media by a suspect challenged an opposing gang & led to the bloody confrontation. Attorneys will be back 10/15/24 to continue testimony.
10/15/24 Update: A Sacramento Judge ruled Tuesday that there was more that eough evidence for the 2 suspects to stand trial in the deadly K Street shooting. "These defendants engage rival gang members in a public gun battle," said Deputy District Attorney Brad Ng. "But you can't show up at an OK corral 7 cry self-defense because you were the slower one of the draw." Both defense attorneys said the men acted in self-defense. The trial is expected to take place in January. Next status hearing on 10/17/24 @ 4pm for both.
