The RCMP says human remains were found near St. George's, N.L., and the matter is under investigation.

In a news release on Wednesday, the RCMP said the remains were found in a wooded area on Tuesday.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the identification.

UPDATE: Human remains found in St. Georges identified by Office of Chief Medical Examiner | Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Bay St. George RCMP is confirming the identity of the human remains found earlier this month as Larry Young of St. Georges. The identification of the remains was completed late last week by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Mr. Young was originally reported as a missing person on August 5, 2017. At that time, extensive search efforts to locate Mr. Young were unsuccessful. His remains were located in a wooded area near St. Georges on March 12, 2024.

RCMP NL extends condolences to the family and friends of Larry Young.
