CA CA - Stacey Smart, 51, Lewiston, Trinity Co, 12 Oct 2016

Anything new today. :(

Until I see the boyfriend/or whatever he is, has taken a poly and passed and is cooperative, leaving my suspicions with him. IMO

  • #283
Wouldn't cooperating mean that when asked "where is the carpet?", you reply with a location rather than a "I don't know." JMO

The local newspaper reports him as having stated he is co-operating. He has not participated in any of the co-ordinated searches, made any public plea for help or undergone polygraph.

How sad is it that "search coordinator" is even a thing?

Popping over from Sherri, I feel bad that I didn't know there was a WS thread for Stacey or I'd have come sooner. I somehow missed the earlier link. This isn't looking positive.

Thanks Alexsea for coming over. This case needs some love!
Maybe one needs some type of a liscense in certain states or has services that are more limited than a PI.

What can we do to help find Stacey? We need info on where her belongings were when she disappeared, where they are now, and where the mysterious woman who lost a ring (rumor) is now.

I'm not sure why a news site in Australia is publishing a story on Stacey and Sherri, but here it is. Mostly rehash, a couple of errors. It's dated today, but I think I've seen the same information somewhere else earlier. Apparently CG has consulted with the family recently. The articles says "authorities" are seeking him out, but I doubt that.

Authorities are now seeking out self-described kidnap consultant Cameron Gamble, who advised the Papini family during the mother-of-two’s high-profile disappearance last month, to assist with the investigation.
Ms Santos-Hamann says Mr Gamble spoke with the family Sunday night and offered advice about coming up with a bounty or reward for her mother, who she said does not have a history of mental illness and regularly checked in with family and friends.
“He’s helping us, he’s giving us advice and kind of helping us with coming up with backers, to help us with a bounty or reward leading up to her whereabouts, what could have happened,” she told local newspaper The Record Searchlight.

He is cooperating. He is not a POI.

Smart search continues, boyfriend says he has no idea where she is

The boyfriend of missing Lewiston woman Stacey Smart spoke to the Journal on Tuesday, saying he doesn’t know what happened to her and he’s cooperated fully with investigators.

The Journal also spoke to the detective working on the case from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office.

Detective Ron Whitman said Brand has been cooperative in the case and has allowed searches of the home and property. However, Whitman did say Brand declined a lie detector test, saying he wouldn’t take one without consulting an attorney first.

Although Trinity County Sheriff Bruce Haney told the Journal last week that the “boyfriend” is not currently considered a person of interest in the case, Whitman said everyone who had contact with Smart is a person of interest, and “we haven’t ruled out anybody.”

I can't believe SS is missing and there hasn't been any POI announced, at minimum. So obvious!

I believe they are going on the theory that she fell into the lake and drowned. So there is no POI.

Where did you see this?

I think it's a JMO post. It's certainly possible, but I haven't seen drowning mentioned in MSM.

Did she happen to take the missing carpet roll with her?

On the facebook page. Their entire effort has been with search and rescue teams. Including using sonar and divers to search the lake. I don't have time to get the links at the moment, but I can get then tonight.

No body was found. The sonar reading has been identified as a rock formation. Old information as of 12/5.

Thank you for providing this link. To be clear, the family is being extremely thorough and covering every possible theory, including drowning but not excluding foul play. Searching underwater does not mean that they necessarily suspect drowning. It's also a possibility that her body has been placed in the water by someone (possibly rolled in carpet and weighted). Nothing is off the table at this point, except for voluntarily leaving the area, cutting off contact with her family and not using her debit card.
